摘要:
Etastomeric impact modifier polymer is blended with polymer of at least one of the monomers: esters of acrylic and methacrylic acids, vinyl aromatic monomers such as styrene and substituted styrenes, olefins and unsaturated esters of organic acid; which is effective to substantially reduce gel colonies of impact modifier in formulations with rigid thermoplastic matrix polymers. The impact modification efficiency of the elastomeric modifier is thereby improved. The weight ratio of impact modifier polymer to gel colony reducing polymer is from 99.5:0.5 to 96:4. The blends may be made by mixing emulsions of the polymers and co-spray drying or co-coagulating. Impact modified thermoplastic polymer compositions contain the blend in a weight ratio of 60:40 to 98:2 ofthermoplasticto blend.

A thermoplastic or thermoset polymer composition comprises a thermoplastic or thermoset matrix polymer and substantially spherical polymer particles having an average diameter of from 2 to 15 micrometers, and a particle size distribution such that at least 90% by weight of the particles fall within ± 20% of the average particle diameter. The polymer compositions are light-scattering and/or have a reduced-gloss or matt surface finish.

A melt-processible blend comprising a methyl methacrylate-tribromophenyl maleimide copolymer and polycarbonate, the weight percent ratio of the copolymer to the polycarbonate being 1:99 to 99:1. The melt-processing blend may be used in a sky light, a window, a door, a laser read compact recording disk, a sign, an athletic playing field enclosure, and vehicle glazing.

In the impact-modification of polycarbonamides, the incompatibility of acrylic core//shell impact modifier with low molecular weight nylon is overcome by forming an impact modifier concentrate of impact modifier and high molecular weight nylon which concentrate is then mixed with a larger amount of low molecular weight nylon so as to modify its impact resistance properties.
