An inkjet ink binder including polymeric nanoparticles ("PNPs") having a mean diameter in the range of 1 to 50 nanometers, wherein the PNPs include as polymerized units 1-20%, by weight based on dry polymer weight, of a curable composition. The reaction of the curable composition can be initiated thermally, chemically or via actinic radiation. An inkjet ink composition comprising a liquid medium, a colorant and the inkjet binder and a method for improving the durability of inkjet ink printed on a substrate are also provided.

Thermoplastic copolymers of glutaric anhydride and (meth)acrylic esters are prepared free of acid groups by reacting a (meth)acrylic ester polymer with a secondary amine at from 150° to 400°C. Where the secondary amine is sufficiently volatile, any excess is removed at above 160°C and below 26.6 kPA. The copolymers are amorphous, soluble, non-crosslinked and low acid. They may be blended with other polymers, formed into plastic articles, or swelled with cross-linking agents.

Acrylic light pipe has adequate thermal and photo-thermal stability for many purposes, but is deficient in maintaining clarity, color, and good optical properties under conditions of exposure to high temperatures, especially in combination with exposure for lengthy periods to passage of light. Improved thermal stability, as reflected in reduced color formation, can be imparted by adjusting the polymerization conditions to produce the uncured core polymer of the core/clad construction with a much reduced terminal vinyl content, preferably below 0.5 vinyl groups/ 1000 monomer units. This process improvement, in combination with selected addition of a combination of certain hindered phenols and hydrolytically stable organic phosphites, together produce a substantial improvement in the resistance to discoloration under photo-thermal conditions, while maintaining the resistance to discoloration under thermal conditions. The known process conditions which do not yield lower terminal vinyl content, in combination with the selected additives, also produce acrylic light pipe with greatly improved photo-thermal stability.

Compatibilization by the reactive copolymer may be enhanced in some cases by catalysis of the grafting reaction between the reactive copolymer and one or more of the polymers to be blended.

Disclosed is the use of certain polyglutarimides as plastic substrates for use in electronic display applications. These substrates have relatively high Tgs for plastics, and good optical clarity and flatness, with low shrinkage and low birefringence. Also disclosed are electronic display cells made using such polyglutarimide substrates.
