    摘要： The invention provides a process for the preparation of compounds of general formula
    which comprises:

    a) the reaction of a sulfate compound of general formula
    with an aromatic alcohol of general formula C₆H₃(R¹)₂OH (III) or an aromatic sulfonate of general formula [C₆H₂(R¹)₂(OH)SO₃] p M (IV), in which formulae R is a linear or branched alkyl group having on average from 8-22 carbon atoms; each R¹ individually is H, a lower alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a thioalkoxy group or halogen, or when both R¹'s are ortho-positioned with respect to one another, both R¹'s together may form a group
    wherein each R¹ individually has the same meaning as hereinbefore; M is an alkali metal, ammonium or an alkaline earth metal; p is 1 or 2; m+n ≦ 15, wherein m ≧ 0 and n > 0;
    in the presence of a base,
    b) sulfonating and neutralizing the reaction product as prepared under a) for the preparation of which a compound of general formula III has been used.

    摘要： The invention relates to alkyl aryl sulphonate concentrate compositions and provides a process wherein an aqueous solution containing at least 10% w/w of a neutralising agent is mixed with at least one C 24 saturated alcohol and the resulting mixture is used to neutralise a C 8-18 alkyl aryl (xylene or toluene) sulphonic acid, relative quantities being such that the resulting neutralised mixture contains 5 to 40 parts by weight of the at least one alcohol per 100 parts by weight of alkyl aryl sulphonate salt. The resulting flowable liquid concentrate compositions are easily handled materials having application in enhanced oil recovery processes.
