The thermoplastic olefin resin composition of the present invention comprises a resin composition consisting of at least one member selected from the group consisting of a modified polypropylene in which an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof is graft copolymerized onto a polypropylene, a modified polypropylene in which an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof and an unsaturated aromatic monomer are graft copolymerized onto a polypropylene, a modified polypropylene composition in which an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof is graft copolymerized onto a mixture of a polypropylene and a rubber-like material, and a modified polypropylene composition in which an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof and an unsaturated aromatic monomer are graft copolymerized onto a mixture of a polypropylene and a rubber-like material, and a polyglutarimide (Component E), and an epoxy group containing copolymer (Component G). The thermoplastic olefin resin composition of the present invention is not only good in molding process-ability but also markedly advantageous in that it can give molded products much superior in physical properties to those obtained from individual polymers constituting the thermoplastic olefin resin composition. The novel thermoplastic olefin resin composition provided according to the present invention can easily be processed into a molded product, a film, a sheet or the like by a molding method usually used for molding thermoplastic resins, for example, injection molding, extrusion molding or the like. Moreover, the product obtained by the processing has a very good balance among stiffness, heat resistance, impact resistance, scratch resistance, coating properties, oil resistance, chemical resistance, water resistance, etc., and a very uniform and smooth appearance. The thermoplastic olefin resin composition of this invention can be advantageously used for a purpose in which especially high heat resistance and impact resistance, in particular, low-temperature impact resistance, are required.

The thermoplastic resin composition according to the present invention not only exhibits excellent processability but also produces remarkable advantages in that it gives far better physical properties than those expected from each polymer which constitutes the thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention. The novel resin composition provided by the present invention can be easily processed into molded articles, films and sheets by a molding method generally used for thermoplastic resins such as injection molding, extrusion molding, etc, and can give products which have well-balanced properties among stiffness, heat resistance, impact resistance, scratch resistance, coatability, oil resistance, chemical resistance, water resistance, etc., and which are excellent in appearance uniformity and smoothness. The thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention is particularly suitable for use where well-balanced properties among heat resistance and impact resistance, low-temperature impact resistance in particular, are required.

A thermoplastic elastomer composition having superior moldability and appearance, and low anisotropy of mechanical properties, especially, tensile strength, and retaining low temperature impact strength, is obtained by melt-kneading an intermediate composition comprising (a) 100 parts by weight of a selectively hydrogenated block copolymer which has at least two mono-alkenyl or mono-alkenylidene aromatic hydrocarbon polymer blocks A having a number-average molecular weight of 25,000 - 35,000 and at least one partially or completely hydrogenated aliphatic conjugated diene hydrocarbon polymer block B having a number-average molecular weight of 100,000 - 150,000, (b) 50 - 150 parts by weight of an extender oil and (c) 0 - 50 parts by weight of polypropylene I, then adding, to the kneaded intermediate composition, (d) polypropylene II containing at least 35 % by weight of a propylene-ethylene block copolymer having a melt flow rate of 10 - 30 g/10 min. and an ethylene content of 3 - 15 % by weight in such amount that total amount of polypropylene I plus polypropylene II is 200 - 400 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of block copolymer (a) and then further melt kneading the mixture. Further addition of a filler to the composition can afford a thermoplastic elastomer composition of small linear expansion coefficient while retaining the above properties.
