A UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) transmits a gating start order or a gating end order to a UE (User Equipment) through a TFCI (Transport Format Combination Indicator) symbol according to whether there exists data transmitted over a forward PCCH (Physical Common Channel) and a forward DPDCH (Dedicated Physical Data Channel), thereby to start or end gating the DPCCH.

Disclosed is a handover controlling method in an RNC connected to a first Node B and a second Node B in a mobile communication system where a USTS service occurs between the first Node B and a UE within a cell of the first Node B and the UE hands over when the UE is located in a handover area across the cell areas of the first Node B and the second Node B adjacent to the first Node B. The method comprises determining whether the handover for the UE is possible or not; transmitting handover information to the second Node B if the handover is possible; and transmitting a command to the UE through the first Node B, requesting the UE to hand over to the second Node B if the UE receives a response message indicating that the handover is possible from the second Node B.

An encoder encodes the k input bits into a sequence of at least 2n symbols where 2n ⊃ m, using an extended Reed-Muller code from a Kasami sequence. A puncturer performs puncturing on the sequence of 2n symbols from the encoder so as to output a sequence of m symbols.

A common packet channel assignment method in a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) communication system is disclosed. The method comprises transmitting an access preamble signal having channel information which is used to access a base station; receiving an access preamble acquisition indicator signal received from the base station in response to the access preamble signal; transmitting a collision detection preamble for detecting a collision in response to the received access preamble acquisition indicator signal; receiving a first signal indicating acquisition of the collision detection preamble and a second signal indicating channel assignement, that the base station has transmitted in response to the collision acquisition signal; and upon receipt of the first signal, allocating a common packet channel according to information designated by the second signal.

A Mobile Station (MS) can transmit control information for interference mitigation. The MS determines a first Precoding Matrix Index (PMI) and a second PMI for interference from an adjacent Base Station (BS). A method for transmitting control data on a downlink and/or uplink channel in a base station and/or mobile station in a mobile communication system. In one embodiment, the base station determines whether there is downlink channel data to transmit to a mobile station. If there is no data to be transmitted over the downlink channel for a predetermined time period, the base station drives a random gating position selector to determine a random gating slot position, gates on the control data at the determined slot position, and gates off the control data at other slot positions. The random position selector determines the gating slot position by calculating a value x by multiplying a system frame number (SFN) of a received signal by a specific integer; selecting n bits starting from a position which is at an x-chip distance from the start point of a scrambling code, which has a period equal to one frame, before a plurality of gating durations used in generating a downlink signal; and determining a gating slot position of a corresponding gating slot group by performing a modulo operation on the selected n bits, where the module operation is by the number of slots in a gating slot group.

Disclosed is an apparatus for performing power control on a CQICH in a mobile communication system including the base station for transmitting a power control bit for power control on reverse channels and the mobile station for controlling transmission power of the reverse channels according to the power control bit. An erasure detector determines whether to perform an erasure process by measuring reception power of the reverse channel quality indicator channel. An erasure rate calculator accumulates the erasure-determined result for N slots and calculates an erasure rate for the N slots. A control bit generator determines a ratio control bit to be transmitted to the mobile station according to the erasure rate, to issue a command to increase or decrease a CQICH traffic-to-pilot ratio.
