The invention relates to a milling tool for gear milling. The tool body is equipped with tangentially mounted milling inserts having four cutting edges and two holes, only one of which is utilized for a fixing screw in two of totally four index positions. By locating a screw hole in the seat of the milling insert at a distance from the radial support surface of the seat that is greater than the distance between an individual hole and a distal end of the milling insert, a clamping force is provided by means of the inherent elasticity of the fixing screw. In such a way, the milling insert is pressed against the radial support surface. By means of a transversal eccentricity, the milling insert is also pressed against a tangential support surface in the seat. By means of this construction, the two holes in differently long milling inserts can be formed with equally large distances from distal ends. Thereby, one and the same tool body can be equipped with differently long milling inserts.

The invention relates to a face mill intended for fine milling, which comprises a rotatable basic body (1) and one or more replaceable milling inserts (2), each one of which includes a front side (7), a back side and a chip surface that transforms into the front side via a cutting edge. The active cutting edge (10a) of the milling insert is situated in a reference plane perpendicular to the centre axis (C1) of the basic body, the milling insert being tipped-in in the basic body in such a way that the front side (7) obtains a clearance from the generated surface. In addition, the milling insert is placed at a negative radial angle (δ), which results in the fact that a rear end point (16) of the cutting edge will move in a circular path (S2) the radius (r 2 ) of which is greater than the radius (r 1 ) of the circular path (S1) in which a front end point (15) moves. According to the invention, the front side (7) and chip surface of the milling insert (2) form an angle of at most 83° with each other, the active cutting edge (10a) of the milling insert being straight and in the entire length thereof situated in said reference plane, besides which said negative radial angle (δ) amounts to at least 70°.

The primary and secondary tool parts comprise seats for a cutting insert each. The individual milling insert (2) is clamped by means of a wedge (19) and a screw (20) easy to access, the wedge (19) acting tangentially against the milling insert behind which there is a robust tangential support in the form of a shoulder (56). By said wedge clamping of the milling insert, there is gained that the milling inserts can be mounted and dismounted in a simple way, as well as that each group of wedge+milling insert+tangential support can be located tangentially and thereby efficiently carry the cutting forces acting on the milling insert. In further aspects, the invention relates in addition to an insert holder as such intended for the tool, a chip removal unit in the form of an insert holder equipped with a milling insert, as well as an insert kit.

The invention concerns a power skiving tool of the type that includes a basic body (7), which is equipped with a plurality of replaceable cutting inserts (8), by means of which chips can be carved or peeled out of a workpiece with the purpose of forming, for instance, teeth. According to the invention, the individual cutting insert (8) is formed with only one cutting edge (15) and has a rear end in the form of a shoulder surface (16), against which an adjusting mechanism (27) is pressed for the fine adjustment of the radial position of the cutting insert in relation to the basic body. On the under side of the cutting insert, there is in addition control means, e.g. a serration connecting surface, which interacts with the corresponding control means in the appurtenant seat (9) in the basic body. In addition, the invention concerns a power skiving cutting insert as such.
