    Abstract: An input device (4), which is for detecting vibrations in a solid body (24) when the input device (4) is in contact with a surface of said solid body (24), comprises a plurality of sensor units mounted in a main housing (16). Each sensor unit comprises a sensor housing (6) and an optical vibration sensor (2) mounted in the sensor housing (6). Each optical vibration sensor (2) comprises a diffractive optical element (14); a light source (10) arranged to illuminate said diffractive optical element (14) such that a first portion of light (32) passes through the diffractive optical element (14) and a second portion of light (30) is reflected from the diffractive optical element (14); and a photo detector (12) arranged to detect an interference pattern generated by said first and second portions of light (32, 30). The optical vibration sensor (2) is configured so that in use, after the first portion of light (32) passes through the diffractive optical element (14), the first portion of light (32) is reflected from a reflective surface (26) onto the photo detector (12). The average density of each sensor housing (6) is higher than the average density of the portion (20) of the main housing (16) connecting the sensors (2).
