A circuit arrangement for feeding an inductive load (M) comprises, for gate control via a control circuit(12), a plurality of power transistors (T,-T 4 ) forming an H-bridge (14), to the output terminals (A, B) of which the inductive load (M) is connected. The control circuit is compatible with an overvoltage detector means (16, 18) assigned to the output (A, B) of the H-bridge (14) to control the power transistors (T 1 -T 4 ) in the sense of an overvoltage suppression should an overvoltage situation occur.

A control circuit for a polarity inverting buck-boost DC-DC converter, comprises an operational trans-conductance amplifier that has inputs to which a sensed voltage difference signal is applied and an output connected to an input of a voltage-to-duty-cycle converter. A compensation capacitance is connected between the output of the amplifier and a fixed supply terminal. The compensation capacitance comprises a first capacitor that is permanently connected between the output of the amplifier and the fixed supply terminal and a second capacitor that has a switched connection between the output of the amplifier and the fixed supply terminal. The first capacitor has a small capacitance compared to the second capacitor. The switched connection of the second capacitor is controlled by a continuous-discontinuous mode detection circuit.

The invention relates to methods of operating step-up DC voltage converters including a storage choke, the one terminal of which is connected to the input of the converter and the other terminal of which is connectable via a first controllable switch to ground and via a second controllable switch to the output of the converter; a clock outputting a first clock signal dictating the switching cycle of the converter, and a second clock signal, the cycle of which corresponds to that of the first clock signal; and a regulator circuit which regulates the voltage at the output of the converter to a setpoint value. In the methods the second switch is set ON at the end of the switching cycle during a constant time duration as dictated by the second clock signal and which as compared to the length of the switching cycles is short, whilst the first switch is set OFF, so that a transient flow of energy occurs from the output of the converter to the input of the converter. Due to this, the converter is always operable at a constant frequency independent of the load and thus permits simple noise filtering of the output voltage which is particularly of advantage in telecommunication applications. The invention relates furthermore to step-up DC voltage converters for implementing the method.
