The selectivity to 4-methyl-1-pentene usually is at least 94 mole percent. The preferred catalysts are uranium and rare earth di(poly-substituted cyclopentadienyl) hydride complexes especially uranium (pentahaptopenta methyl cyclopentadienyl) hydride complexes.
