In a record mode, a second channel clock reference is coupled to the second channel processing circuit to produce a recordable signal using a digital encoder. For dual channel analog signal processing, the common frequency source is not locked to either channel/input signal. Digital signal processing is accomplished based on the same common reference frequency source. Advantageously, the present invention allows all of the analog-to-digital converters and decoder circuitry/logic necessary for simultaneously digitizing and processing several analog and digital television signals to be integrated on a single integrated circuit as well as eliminating duplicate frequency generation circuits.

At least one de-interlacing circuit (11401, 1140'1, 1140'') pulls at least two fields of video data from the memory mechanism at a rate of at least twice the field rate for performing a full de-interlacing function in half of a field period to generate the a progressive, frame doubled signal for receipt at the display device.

Method and apparatus for automatically enhancing the foliage display of a color signal includes providing the color signal in multiplexed form having alternating first and second components, the first component being substantially aligned with a flesh tone color space axis, the second component being substantialy aligned with a green tone color space axis. A de-multiplexing unit separates the first and second components to provide a first de-multiplexed component substantially aligned with the flesh tone axis and a second de-multiplexed component substantially aligned with the green tone axis. A processing unit generates from the de-multiplexed components a green tone enhancement control signal for increasing green tone contrast of the color signal; and a modifying unit modifies the magnitude of the multiplexed color signal by applying the multiplexed color signal and the green tone enhancement control signal to a multiplier to provide a modified multiplexed output signal at an output having enhanced foliage contrast. In an examplary embodiment, the green enhancement control signal and a flesh tone enhancement control signal are applied to a common multiplier thereby advantageously providing both flesh tone and foliage enhancement with an absolute minimum of circuitry for the combined functions.

A digital, cable ready television functions without a standard point-of-deployment (POD) interface module. The television utilizes an IEEE 1394 compatible interface and module to perform processing functions, such as descrambling scrambled signals, and providing electronic program guide (EPG) information. The television receives an input signal containing scrambled signals. The scrambled signals are switched out of the main transport data stream to the descrambler via the IEEE 1394 compatible interface. The scrambled signals are descrambled in accordance with permission information embedded in the input signal and recombined with the main transport data stream, via the IEEE 1394 compatible interface, wherein descrambled signals replace scrambled signals. The combined signal is provided to a display/audio device in any appropriate format, such as HD-MPEG. The IEEE 1394 compatible interface module may also provide copy protected content.

An apparatus and a method for controlling distribution of digital content from an device attached to a network to another device outside the network. The device receives a digital signal containing content, the digital signal having an authorization field indicative of a first transport mode authorizing the content for distribution outside the network, and of a second transport mode wherein the content is not authorized for transmission outside the network. The method comprises the steps of receiving location information of a router on the network for routing content to devices outside the network; receiving destination data indicative of location information associated with a destination device to which the device intends to distribute the content; determining whether the destination device is outside the network based on the router location information and the received destination data; examining the authorization field and, inhibiting transmission of the content if the destination device is outside the network and the digital signal is in the inhibit mode.
