Abstract: A technique for detecting an encoder functionality issue in a media distribution system is presented. In the media distribution system consecutive media segments generated by an encoder are transmitted to a media client, and media descriptions describe expected availability times of media segments for the media client. A method implementation of the technique comprises the step of monitoring an availability time of a media segment compared to an expected availability time of the media segment, wherein the expected availability time is described by, or derived from, a media description. The method further comprises determining whether a deviation of the monitored availability time of the media segment from the expected availability time of the media segment is present, and detecting the encoder functionality issue based on a result of the determination. The encoder functionality issue may comprise one or more of an encoder restart, an encoder malfunction and an encoder time drift.

Abstract: Methods, devices, systems, and non-transitory process-readable storage media for scalable data service distribution in WiFi Miracast. A processor of a source computing device in a WiFi Miracast network may group all sink computing devices scheduled to receive a frame or packet of a service into a single multicast group and transmit a multicast frame or packet to the sink computing devices. Individual sink computing devices in a WiFi Miracast network may be configured to send error logs indicating the quality of their respective wireless connections with a source computing device to the source computing device. A source computing device may add multicast group member sink computing devices to a unicast group based at least in part on missing and/or received error logs from the multicast group member sink computing devices.

Abstract: A user equipment node, upon determining that the data loss in a requested file is above, or likely to be above a threshold value, transmits a delivery missing report to a server node indicating that the data loss in the requested file is above the threshold value. The delivery missing report is used by the server node for determining whether or not a multicast file repair procedure should be enabled, based on the number of delivery missing reports it has received from other user equipment nodes. This enables a point-to-multipoint file repair procedure to be enabled sooner, and prevent a flood of point-to-point file repairs.

Abstract: A method of transporting media data includes, by a file-based protocol sending unit of a source device, receiving a stream of data comprising Segments of media data from a segmenter of the source device that forms the Segments, each of the Segments comprising a respective individually retrievable file associated with a unique uniform resource locator (URL), determining locations of media delivery events (MDEs) in the stream of media data, wherein the MDEs include data for at least a portion of one of the Segments, determining one or more transmission time requirements for the MDEs representing times at which the MDEs are to be sent to a client device, and providing the MDEs and data representing the transmission time requirements to a physical layer sending unit of the source device according to available delivery slots for the physical layer sending unit.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for detecting information that indicates that a user will be traveling from a first geographic location to a second geographic location, and responsively accessing a playlist indicated by a profile of the user that indicates a plurality of streaming media that the user intends to consume. Control circuitry may then compare data corresponding to each streaming media of the plurality of streaming media to a database to determine whether each streaming media of the plurality of streaming media is accessible to the user at the second geographic location, and may determine that a subset of the plurality of media is not accessible to the user at the second geographic location. In response to determining that the subset is not accessible to the user at the second geographic location, the control circuitry may download each media of the subset.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a transmitting device transmits a real-time media stream for a real-time communication session to a set of target devices. At least one of the set of target devices detects a media reception gap in the real-time communication session, and transmits a rewind request to the transmitting device to trigger the transmitting device to generate and provide a time-delayed version of the real-time media stream that includes media lost during the media reception gap. The transmitting device generates a rewind stream based on the rewind request and transmits the rewind stream to the at least one target device.
