摘要: Method of forming an adherent metal deposit on a conducting layer of a tube sealed at one end. The tube is immersed with the sealed end down into an aqueous solution containing ions of the metal to be deposited. An ionically conducting aqueous fluid is placed inside the tube and a direct current is passed from a cathode inside the tube to an anode outside the tube. Also a multi-layered solid oxide fuel cell tube which consists of an inner porous ceramic support tube, a porous air electrode covering the support tube, a non-porous electrolyte covering a portion of the air electrode, a non-porous conducting interconnection covering the remaining portion of the electrode, and a metal deposit on the interconnection.

摘要: Apparatus for forming a chemically vapor deposited coating on a porous substrate where oxygen from a first gaseous reactant containing a source of oxygen permeates through the pores of the substrate to react with a second gaseous reactant that is present on the other side of the substrate. The apparatus includes means for controlling the pressure and flow rate of each gaseous reactant, a manometer for measuring the difference in pressure between the gaseous reactants on each side of the substrate, and means for changing the difference in pressure between the gaseous reactants. Also a method of detecting and closing cracks in the coating by reducing the pressure difference between the two gaseous reactants whenever the pressure difference falls suddenly after gradually rising, then again increasing the pressure difference on the two gases. The attack by the by-products of the reaction on the substrate are reduced by maintaining the flow rate of the first reactant through the pores of the substrate.

摘要: A sensor for detecting the amount of O 2 and combustible gas in a gaseous mixture uses two electrochemical cells (20,40) operating in sequence, to detect oxygen and gaseous combustible contents respectively; the first electrochemical cell (20) is a molten carbonate electrochemical cell operating at a temperature between 400 and 700°C and is used to remove O 2 in combination with CO 2 from the oxygen/ combustibles gas mixture to provide a low temperature measurement of the oxygen content of the gas mixture. The second electrochemical cell (40) is an oxygen ion conductive using catalyzing electrodes (44,46) and an external source of O2, e.g. air, to cause combustion of the combustible components of the mixture.
The cells (20, 40) each have electrodes (24,26;44,46) applied across cell-walls to apply a potential to cause oxygen transport across the cell walls. The current flowing through across the cell-walls in a measure of either the oxygen content or the oxygen required to oxidize the combustible gaseous contents.

摘要: A high temperature solid oxide electrolyte fuel cell generator which allows controlled leakage among plural chambers (14, 16, 18) in a sealed housing. It uses a plurality of tubular fuel cells (40), each extending from the combustion product chamber (16) to the generator chamber (14) and being close-ended (44) within the generator chamber. Each oxidant carrying conduit (20) extends through the fuel cell to a point near its closed end to discharge oxidant into the fuel cell. Electrochemical reaction takes place while the oxidant traverses the inside of the fuel cells. Depleted oxidant discharged from the open ends (42) of the cells and hot depleted fuel diffusing through a porous barrier (32) are directly reacted in the combustion product chamber (16) to combust remaining fuel and preheat incoming reactants.
