    摘要: Methods and apparatus are provided for making an optically readable storage media in which the reading beams passes through a bonding layer configured with a reactive material that transforms from an optically transparent state to an optically opaque state after exposure to a predefined stimulus, thereby inhibiting access to the data encoded on the optically readable storage media. The method includes steps of synthesizing a blocked dye combining the blocked dye with a carrier material curing the resultant combination deblocking the dye to produce a reduced dye in the resultant bonding layer exposing the optically readable storage media with the reactive material in its bonding layer to a predetermined stimulus. In a further aspect of the present invention methods and apparatus are provided for making an optically readable storage media wherein the reading light passes through the bonding layer and the data encoded information is encoded on the L1 substrate. In yet another aspect of the present invention methods and apparatus are provided for making an optically readable storage media with at least two mechanisms for limiting access to the encoded data of the optically readable storage media

A method for this include providing the readout surface of the optically readable medium with a roughened surface by embossing, scratching, depositing a non-planar layer or the like which inhibits the readout of the medium (B). Applying a sublimable coating (200) to the roughened surface which results in a smooth surface which enables the readout of the media (C). Providing a barrier layer (200A) to the smoothed surface (D). When used, the barrier layer is removed exposing the sublimable coating (200) (E). This coating evaporates due to heating by the readout beam and/or exposure to the atmosphere to expose the roughened surface rendering the media unreadable (F).

    摘要: An optical disc (20) having machine-readable, information-encoding features (22) is provided with a barrier layer secured to the disc. This barrier layer (24) is configured to prevent machine-reading of the features. A reading-inhibit agent (14, 34), included in the disc and activated by removal of the barrier layer, is operative, once activated, to alter the disc to inhibit reading of the disc after some period of time. Alternately, the barrier layer can be eliminated, and the reading-inhibit agent can be activated by initial reading of the disc, as for example by exposure to optical radiation associated with reading of the disc, or rotation of the disc.

    摘要: An optically readable media (10) has an information-encoding layer (16) and at least one color-forming layer (12) that embodies an optical readout-limiting mechanism. In a first embodiment the at least one color-forming layer contains an additive that does not interfere with the optical readability of hte media for a duration of a readout period. The additive, upon eyposure to a source of optical radiation that is suitable for reversing the color-forming layer from an optical radiaiton that is suitable for reversing the color-forming layer from an optical readout inhibiting state to an optical readout enabling state, undergoes a transformation that maintains the color-forming layer in the optical readout inhibiting state. More specifically, exposure to the source causes the color-forming layer to photobleach and athe additive to oxidize, where the oxidation of the additive permanently inhibits the optical readability of the media. The additive may be a leuco dye. In one embodiment the color-forming layer is comprised of 3-[2,3-bis(4-diethylaminophenyl)vinyl]-6-dimethylaminophthalide and the additive is comprised of benzoyl leucomethylene blue. In a further embodiment the additive is placed into a protective layer (18) that overlies the color-forming layer.

    摘要: An optically readable media and packaging therefor, where the media includes a material that over time undergoes at least one of a chemical change or a physical change to render unreadable the optically readable media. The media is sealed within the packaging with a source of a chemical compound that inhibits the change, and the media is also sealed within the packaging with a getter of the chemical compound that over time absorbs said chemical compound, or which a substance that over time renders unreactive a reactive chemical compound. In a further embodiment the media is sealed within the packaging with a getter of a chemical compound that promotes the change. In this case the getter absorbs the chemical compound until saturated with the chemical compound, after which the concentration of the chemical compound until saturated with the chemical compound, after which the concentration of the chemical compound increases until the media is rendered unreadable. As non-limiting examples, the chemical compound may be NMP, DMF, acetone, or HCl. In another embodiment the media further includes a diffusion barrier that inhibits but does not prevent the chemical compound from reaching a layer of the media that over time undergoes at least one of a chemical change or a physical change to render unreadable the optically readable media, while in another embodiment the source of the chemical compound includes the diffusion barrier. In a further embodiment the media includes a first layer that over time undergoes the at least one of a chemical change or a physical change, a second layer that contains the source of a chemical compound that promotes the change, and the diffusion barrier is interposed between the first layer and the second layer.
