A composite insulating panel comprises an external sheet 2, an internal sheet 4, and an insulating body 5 between the sheets 2, 4. The external sheet 2 has a first longitudinally extending raised side underlap projection 30 at one side and a side overlap projection 31 on the opposite side of the panel with a substantially flat portion 32 extending between the projections 30, 31. A photovoltaic solar collector 10 is mounted to the flat portion 32 of external sheet 2. The solar collector 10 comprises a photovoltaic sheet 20 and a protective translucent cover 21 for the photovoltaic sheet 20. A first adhesive layer 22 is provided between the photovoltaic sheet 20 and the translucent cover 21. A second adhesive layer 23 is provided between the underside of the photovoltaic sheet 20 and the external surface of the composite panel upper or external sheet 2. The adhesive layers 21, 22 may be of the same hot melt adhesive. In the invention sheets of the photovoltaic 20, the adhesive 22, 23, and the cover 21 are drawn from supply reels, are cut to length, and then laid on top of the flat portion 32 of the upper sheet 2 of the insulated panel. Using a pressure laminating process the various layers are heated and pressed to adhere to the flat portion 32 of the outer sheet 2 of the insulated panel.

A composite cladding panel 1 comprises a backing tray 2 and an external skin 3 with a layer of foam insulation material 4 such as a phenolic or polyurethane based foam material therebetween. One of the skins, in this case the external skin 3 has a plurality of tongue and mortise blocks 5 fastened to the panel 1 by fasteners 12. Each fastener 12 comprises a peel rivet having a mandrel, a stress plate, and a main body. Pilot holes 13 are first drilled through the blocks 5 and the rivet 12 is inserted. On operation of a rivet gun the main body curls up 22 and is clamped against the inside surface of the external skin 3. The blocks 5 are thereby efficiently and effectively clamped to the external skin 3. A composite insulating panel with an integrated high performance brick cladding is provided.

An open mesh armature 20 between the first insulating body 2 and the foam 10 to provide enhanced bonding between the polystyrene body 2 and the foam 10 at the interface therebetween. The introduction of an armature veil 20 on top of the polystyrene prior to laying down of the liquid foam reactants, prevents the reactants from coming into direct contact with the polystyrene surface prior to initial foaming. When the reacting liquid expands a small amount of the foam thus formed is forced through the armature 20 and adheres to the surface of the polystyrene. This results in enhanced fusion between the polystyrene and the foam without damage to the polystyrene.
