While determining a leak resistance (Ra, Rb) of a subscriber connection line (TAL) provided, for example, with two wires (a, b) in a communications network, a capacitor (C) connected between said two wires is discharged prior to measuring leakage currents (IRa1, IRa2). For this purpose, prior to be connected to a high resistance of the other wire (b), the measurable wire (a) and the other mentioned wire (b) are supplied with a constantly falling and increasing voltage (UaG, UbG). For that, the final value of said tensions (UaG, UbG) is determined in such a way that, when the connection to the high resistance of the other wire (b) is produced, the voltage of said wire (b) is equal to 0 volt. The leakage current is measured only when the discharge process is over, thereby making it possible to avoid an incorrect measurement caused by a current coming from the capacitor (C).

The invention relates to a device for the packet-based access of classical ISDN/PSTN subscribers to a switching system. The convergence of packet-based networks and TDM networks leads to a situation where classical analogous and ISDN subscribers and private branch exchanges have to be accessed via packet-based transmission methods. This problem is solved by the present invention by integrating the devices of a subscriber network that according to the state of the art are located outside the switching systems and that provide the main functions such as addressing, message routing for signaling messages and TDM interface for local branch exchange into the periphery of the switching system. The functionality of the interface that focuses on the subscriber-side is thus also integrated into the periphery of the switching system. At the same time, the approach to the subscriber network and the mode of using it remain the same for the internal devices (kernel) of the switching system.

The invention relates to a method and device for tracking network parameters of a communications network, which is formed by links, with access controls for the purpose of controlling traffic load. According to the invention, the traffic matrix of the network is regularly determined and probabilities of the blocking of traffic are determined based on the traffic matrix. If the blocking probabilities exceed a criterion, typically a maximum blocking probability, the access controls are oppositely controlled in an automatic manner by resetting the limits for the access controls. This resetting can precede a resetting of link weights for optimizing the distribution of traffic in the network. The invention enables an automatic continuous adaptation of network parameters for optimizing the probability of authorization for the traffic flows to be transmitted.
