A method and an apparatus for treatment of hog carcasses (3), in which a pair of carcass sides suspended at their hind feet in a gambrel (4) is conveyed on an overhead conveyor (9), which moves above a conveyor belt, on which the carcass sides are put down and lying thereupon conveyed for further treatment. By the method the hind feet of the pair of carcass sides are automatically cut off during the transfer, while the carcass sides (3) are connected with the gambrel (4) and the weight of the carcass sides has been partially transferred to the conveyor belt. The hind feet are automatically cut off with greater accuracy than by use of hitherto known methods. The cutting may be carried out by circular saws mounted stationarily below the travelling path of the gambrels or by means of pivotally mounted circular saws which are advanced together with the hind feet, which are fixated during the cutting.

A device, a system and a method for laying down carcase sides (102; 104) of e.g. pig or cattle from an overhead conveyor (108) to a working surface (114) wherein right and left carcase sides (102; 104) are conveyed by the overhead conveyor (108) in a transport direction. The carcase sides are conveyed past a laying-down support structure (120; 122; 124) comprising right and left laying down support elements (120; 122; 124) extending in different directions relative to a central part of the support structure, such as in a V-shape. The carcase sides (102; 104) and the laying-down support elements (120; 122; 124) may be mutually displaced transversely to the transport direction so as to control the orientation and positioning of carcase sides (102; 104) which are laid down on the working surface (114). Displacement may occur by stationary means such as a branching-off device (126) forcing the carcase sides sideways away from their freely suspended position, or by movable means, such as a frame (138) which is movable transversely to the transport direction, and on which the laying-down support elements (120; 122; 124) are arranged.

The invention relates to an apparatus for unhooking and transferring hung articles, in particular cuts of meat hung on conventional hooks, from haulage vehicles, - for instance, to sorting and warehousing installations. It is characterised by the fact that it comprises a particular type of gripping mechanism (22), capable of being moved in three respectively orthogonal directions, and designed to withdraw the the said articles (2) from the hooks (3) whereon they were hung at the outset, to hold them thus, and to transfer and re-hang them upon further hooks (6). The said gripping mechanism (22) in its turn comprises two symmetrically arranged and appropriately shaped gripping elements, movable with respect to each other from a first working position in which they are disposed with, at least, their free extremities united by reciprocal contact of their opposed surfaces, to a second working position in which the same elements are brought to that minimum reciprocal distance which allows the guided insertion therebetween of one of the said hooks, and vice-versa.

A system for conveying carcasses or carcass parts of quadruped slaughter animals includes at least one carrier. The carrier includes a first jaw element, which has an engagement face for engaging the carcass or carcass part, a second jaw element, which has an engagement face for engaging the carcass or carcass part. The carrier further includes a tensioning structure, the connection between the first connection zone of the tensioning structure and the first jaw element and the connection between the second connection zone of the tensioning structure and the second jaw element being such that when the jaw elements move relative to each other when receiving a carcass or carcass part in the retaining part of the holding slot, the first connection zone moves along with the first jaw member and the second connection zone moves along with the second jaw member, which movement of the connection zones causes elastic deformation of the tensioning structure, the elastic deformation providing a clamping force to the engagement faces of the jaw elements such that the carcass or carcass part is retained in the holding slot by clamping a part of the carcass or carcass part between the engagement face of the first jaw element and the engagement face of the second jaw element.
