There is provided an instep cover in which various designs can be provided on a side surface portion of the instep cover even when a shoelace holding section is provided, and a shoe upper including the instep cover. In a shoe upper (100) configuring a shoe, an instep cover (1) that covers a portion on an instep side of a wearer includes a slit (5S) extending from a foot insertion opening for the wearer to insert a foot toward a toe, and a shoelace holding section (4) that holds a shoelace for adjusting a spacing of the slit (5S). The shoelace holding section (4) includes a holding unit (4U) configured by a hole (4h) formed in a slit edge region (11) that shapes the slit (5S), and an annular strap (4s) being formed to an annular shape by connecting one end and the other end of a lace-like body to the slit edge region (11) and having a length that can be pulled out from the hole (4h) when an intermediate portion of the lace-like body is brought to a position of the hole (4h).

There is provided a method for producing a shoe upper capable of producing a shoe upper having a double structure with high productivity. A tubular inner side knitted fabric portion (19) to become an inner side portion of the shoe upper and a tubular outer side knitted fabric portion (11) to become an outer side portion of the shoe upper are knitted with the inner side knitted fabric portion (19) and the outer side knitted fabric portion (11) lined on left and right on the needle beds and with foot insertion opening corresponding portions (110, 190) of the knitted fabric portions (11, 19) connected (process ±). In this case, at least one of the inner side knitted fabric portion (19) and the outer side knitted fabric portion (11) is knitted using a fusible knitting yarn including a heat fusible yarn. The inner side knitted fabric portion (19) is tucked in an interior of the outer side knitted fabric portion (11) to form a shoe upper having a double structure (process ²). The shoe upper having the double structure is fitted to a last and a thermal process is carried out (process ³).

Sole structures (200) for articles of footwear (800) include sipes (202, 204, 210B, 210, 220, 222) that define discrete hexagonally-shaped sole elements (212, 214) at the ground-engaging or ground-facing surface (200B). At least some of the arch-supporting hexagonally shaped sole elements (212) may be elongated in one direction as compared to at least some of the corresponding hexagonally shaped sole elements (212) in the heel and/or forefoot support areas (404). Additionally or alternatively, the sole structure (200) may include a perimeter rim (200P) and/or side wall (200W) integrally formed with and extending upward from a foot-supporting surface (200S) at least at a rear heel area of the sole structure (200). This perimeter rim (200P) and/or side wall (200W) forms a rear heel pocket (240) that engages at least a portion (304) of the heel area of the upper (e.g., the rear heel area) with an interior surface (200S) of the perimeter rim (200P) and/or side wall (200W).

Disclosed herein are a loom for weaving a fabric with two types of tissue, a shoe upper woven using the loom, and a shoe including such a shoe upper. The loom includes a first heddle stack formed by arranging a plurality of first heddles in one or more rows, and a second heddle stack formed by arranging a plurality of second heddles in one or more rows, the second heddles being different in kind from the first heddles. The first heddle stack and the second heddle stack are sequentially arranged in a warp feeding direction.

Aspects hereof relate to a footwear upper formed from a plurality of tensile strands interwoven with a webbing material. The upper may have a bootie configuration. At least a portion of the strands may extend between a lateral-side portion of the upper and a medial-side portion of the upper and extend over an instep region and/or a sole region of the upper. The tensile strands may be bundled such that a plurality of strands forms a single weft or warp. Bundles having differing quantities of tensile strands may form a pattern on the upper that is effective for aiding conformance of the upper to a wearer's foot while enhancing ventilation and reducing water saturation. The tensile strands, whether singular or bundled, may be effective for transferring a load of a fastening mechanism through the woven upper while allowing the upper to have a desired degree of elasticity, support and/or comfort.

Shoe uppers having smooth seams and methods for producing them are disclosed. In one embodiment the upper uses thermoplastic seam tape which forms bonds between contiguous upper sections after being subjected to heat and/or pressure. In another embodiment, different parts of the shoe can be joined using hidden seams. Close seams can also be covered with a transfer material adapted to give the interior and/or exterior of the upper a smooth surface. In yet another embodiment, a method is disclosed which allows three-dimensional upper sections to be bonded on a last using thermoplastic seam tape.

An article of footwear (100) includes an upper (120) incorporating a knitted component (130). An inlaid strand (132) extends through the knitted component. A combination feeder may be utilized to inlay the strand within the knitted component. As an example, the combination feeder may include a feeder arm that reciprocates between a retracted position and an extended position. In manufacturing the knitted component, the feeder inlays the strand when the feeder arm is in the extended position, and the strand is absent from the knitted component when the feeder arm is in the retracted position.
