    摘要: The invention relates to a device (100) for radio-frequency (RF) skin treatment comprising an active electrode (1, 31) arranged on an operational side (15) of the device and having a first skin contact surface for electrical contact with a skin of a user during use. The device further comprises a return electrode (2, 32) arranged on the operational side (15) of the device and having a second skin contact surface for electrical contact with the skin of the user during use. The second skin contact surface is at least five times larger than the first skin contact surface. An RF generator (21) is arranged to supply an RF treatment voltage between the active electrode and the return electrode when the active electrode and the return electrode are in electrical contact with the skin, so as to heat the skin below the active electrode. A coupling member (45, 46; 61, 62; 402, 403) is adapted to be arranged on the first skin contact surface and comprises an electrically conductive material to improve the electrical coupling of the active electrode to the skin surface. The coupling member comprises a first layer (45, 61, 403) of a first electrically conductive material adapted to be arranged on the first skin contact surface, and a second layer (46, 62, 402) of a second electrically conductive material, different from the first material, arranged on the first layer, on a side of the first layer remote from the first skin contact surface, wherein the first layer has a thickness in a range from 10 μm to 100 μm and the first material has a modulus of elasticity of at least 100 kPa, and wherein the second layer has a thickness of 10 μm or less and the second material has a viscosity of 1,000 CPS or less.

    摘要: Miniaturized, handheld medical heating devices utilize an electrical heater formed from a self-limiting conductive material, such as a conductive polymer or ceramic. The material has an electrical resistance that gradually changes with temperature such that heat production from electrical current through the material varies the resistance. A thermally insulating jacket contains the self-limiting heater element, which can be coupled to an electrical power supply. In one embodiment, a probe thermally coupled to the heater extends outward from the jacket. In another embodiment, the self-limiting conductive material is in series with one electrode of an electrode pair (or three electrodes) adapted to deliver radio frequency energy to tissue.

    摘要: An electrosurgical system for sealing vessels using capacitive (RF) dielectric heating and a method thereof are provided. The system includes an electrosurgical instrument having an end effector with parallel plate electrodes that will clamp onto a vessel and maintain a specified gap distance; however, the electrodes will be coated with a non-conductive dielectric material. Such an end effector will ensure that direct conduction between the electrodes does not occur through tissue or fluids and effectively creates a parallel plate capacitor with a dielectric, e.g., tissue and coating, in between the plates. The electrosurgical instrument will be activated with an AC signal at a specified RF frequency, e.g., a Debye resonance frequency, via an electrosurgical generator. An effective AC current will flow through the tissue and cause heating due to fictional losses from rotating polar molecules in the tissue.
