摘要: A device, a method of making a device and a method of inserting a device into a tubular path. The device includes a tubular sheath with one or more helical slots formed therein and a control element that fits within the sheath. In one form, the device is an endoluminal device that simultaneously improves flexibility and structural rigidity though variations in one or both of slot width along the length of the slot and slot pitch along the length of the tubular sheath. When the operator pulls at the proximal end of the control element while holding the outer sheath in place, the slots will tend to close in a preferential manner such that more precise control of device length and bending is enabled, while simultaneously providing improvements in structural rigidity during device insertion and navigation through a body lumen or related tubular member where tortuous paths may be encountered along the member path.

摘要: An introducer sheath (10) for providing vascular access in a patient's body comprises a tubular body (11) having a proximal end (12) and a distal end (13), the distal end (13) being configured to be inserted into a patient's vessel (50) to allow a medical device (100) to be inserted from the proximal end (12) through the tubular body (11) out of the distal end (13) into the patient's vessel (50). The tubular body (11) includes a recoil section (31) that has a radial compressibility which is higher than a radial compressibility of at least a portion of the tubular body (11) that is distal to the recoil section (31). This enables the patient's vessel (50) and surrounding tissue (51) to recoil at the puncture site (52), which is advantageous for the patient, e.g. with respect to wound healing.

摘要: New devices and methods for deflecting a catheter progressing within a lumen, into a preferred direction, typically in order to accomplish ablative removal of obstructive material within that lumen without the danger of uncontrolled catheter deflection risking perforation of the lumen. The catheter may ride on a guide wire, or it may be free riding down the lumen, limited by the passages available in the obstructive material, and generating its own passage by debulking the material within the lumen. The types of deflection required may be radial or lateral. A number of novel configurations are described, including improvements to the slotted wall catheter, by selection of the shape, spacing and location of the slots. Other implementations include a catheter with a novel spring configuration, which can release itself from a situation in which the catheter becomes stuck when widening an initial narrow bore in an obstructed vessel.
