摘要: The invention relates to a device for muscle stimulation, said device comprising a pulse generator unit (9) for producing and sending an electrical stimulation pulse; a control unit (10) for controlling the pulse generator unit (9) in order to adjust the amplitude and the frequency of the stimulation pulses and to cause the transmission of stimulation pulses to a muscle to be stimulated; a detection unit (11) for detecting the instantaneous, spontaneous or stimulated cardiac rhythm of the carrier of the device; a housing (12) receiving the pulse generator unit (9), the control unit (10), and the detection unit (11); a counting unit (13) and a memory unit (14) for counting and storing the number of stimulation pulses emitted within a definable time interval; and a determination unit (15) for determining the arithmetic average of the stimulation frequency within the definable time interval.

摘要: A patient monitoring and/or therapy delivery system and method employing an implantable medical device for sensing absolute physiologic signal values within the body of a patient, e.g., absolute blood pressure, temperature, etc., and an external monitoring device for monitoring and conveying ambient signal values to the implantable medical device, wherein the absolute physiologic signal values and the ambient signal values are combined to derive relative physiologic signal values for storage and/or control of a therapy provided by the implantable medical device. In the context of an implantable physiologic monitor, the relative and optionally, the absolute and/or ambient physiologic signal values are stored in memory for telemetry out to an external programmer in an uplink RF telemetry transmission initiated by medical personnel operating the external programmer. In the context of an implantable therapy delivery device, the relative physiologic signal values are also employed in therapy delivery algorithms.

摘要: A cardiac assist system which provides simultaneous cardiac assistance during a confirmed cardiac arrythmia, but which provides for the inhibition of the cardiac assistance in the event battery voltage drops below a predefined point. In particular the present invention features a battery voltage safety limit during the deliver VF therapy state. During VF therapy state the system provides skeletal muscle stimulation while charging a defibrillation output capacitor. The battery voltage safety limit is set above a threshold which will insure proper device functionality, i.e. above the power-on-reset threshold (hereafter "POR"). If the battery voltage safety limit is reached the system inhibits the skeletal muscle stimulation to thereby avoid reaching the POR threshold, but yet still maintain the charging of the defibrillation output capacitor. Once charging of the defibrillation output capacitor is completed a synchronization routine is begun and defibrillation therapy is delivered. In such a manner the present invention prevents the dual demands of skeletal muscle stimulation along with charging of the defibrillation output capacitor to cause the battery voltage to collapse and drop below the power-on-reset threshold.

摘要: A cardiac assist device having muscle augmentation during confirmed arrhythmia. In particular the present invention operates, in a first embodiment, to sense a cardiac event, next it determines whether the cardiac event is a cardiac arrhythmia, if the event is not a cardiac arrhythmia the devices delivers stimulation to a skeletal muscle grafted about a heart, but if the event is a cardiac arrhythmia the device inhibits delivery of skeletal muscle stimulation and once the arrhythmia is confirmed, then delivers therapeutic stimulation to the heart. In a second embodiment the present invention operates to re-initiate skeletal muscle stimulation once the arrhythmia is confirmed but prior to the delivery of the therapeutic stimulation to the heart.

摘要: A method and apparatus for determining the optimum location for implanting a muscle stimulating electrode. A test probe is provided for producing an electric current at various muscle tissue locations to determine comparative threshold measurements of the selected muscle tissue locations and determine the optimum location for implanting the muscle stimulating electrode.
