摘要:
A method of treating a waste evacuation dysfunction comprising administering transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TES) to at least one lower pelvic and/or sacral region for a specific treatment regimens. Also disclosed is a system for configuring a stimulation device to deliver transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TES) the system comprising: a computing device storing or having access to a plurality or TES settings and comprising a user interface to enable authorized selection of at least on of the TES settings for provision of TES by the stimulation device according to the at least one selected TES setting and the stimulation device communicatively coupled to the computing device to receive and store the selected at least one TES setting the stimulation device being of a size to be readily carried on a body and configured to selectively provide current to external electrode according to the one TES setting.

Methods and systems for pacing the heart include a vibrational transducer (14), which directs vibrational energy at the heart, usually including at least one ventricle, to pace the heart to promote synchronized contraction of the ventricles. Optionally, additional vibrational and/or electrical stimulation (12) may be provided.

A cardiac pacemaker includes a power transmitter which periodically transmits a pulse of a radio frequency signal to a vascular electrode-stent that is implanted in a vein or artery of an animal. The vascular electrode-stent employs energy from the radio frequency signal to charge a storage device which serves as an electrical power supply. The vascular electrode-stent also detects a cardiac signal emitted from the sinus node of the heart and responds thereto by applying a pulse of voltage from the storage device to a pair of electrodes implanted in the vascular system of the animal. Application of the voltage pulse to the electrodes stimulates contraction of the heart.

A skin-contact type medical treatment apparatus is provided which includes: a first conductive member (1) having a first skin-contact surface in contact with a first surface of skin (5) when in use, the first skin-contact surface being made of metal or its alloy; and a second conductive member (2) having a second skin-contact surface in contact with a second surface of skin different from the first surface when in use together with the first conductive member, the second skin-contact surface being made of n-type semiconductor material having a standard single electrode potential lower than that of the first skin-contact surface. The first and second conductive members are electrically connected by a protective resistor (3) at an area different from the first and second skin-contact surfaces, the protective resistor having a resistance value in the range of from 0.1 to 50 MΩ.
