Zur Schadensbegrenzung im Brandfall sind die von brennbaren Gasen oder Flüssigkeiten durchströmten Anlagenteile mit selbständig schließenden Absperrarmaturen ausgerüstet. Derartige Schließvorrichtungen sind im wesentlichen dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie durch ein eine Schließkraft hemmendes Element in Offenstellung gehalten werden. Aufgabe der Erfindung ist die Schaffung einer automatischen Absperrvorrichtung einfacher Bauweise, die bei ungewöhnlichem Temperaturanstieg in deren Umgebung zuverlässig und selbsttätig das Schließen einer Absperrarmatur bewirkt. Die Schließvorrichtung weist als die Schließkraft hemmendes Element mindestens einen druckbeaufschlagten volumenänderlichen Hohlkörper (5) mit mindestens einer Sollbrucheinrichtung (8) auf. Diese besteht aus einem Material, dessen Schmelztemperatur auf eine definierte Grenztemperatur eingestellt ist. Eine derartige Schließvorrichtung läßt sich mit verschiedenartigen handelsüblichen Absperrarmaturen (2 ) kombinieren. Bei Erreichen oder Überschreiten der Grenzwerttemperatur wird der Schließvorgang ausgelöst, in dem das Material der Sollbrucheinrichtung (8) schmilzt, der Druck an dieser Stelle entweicht und die wirksam werdende Schließkraft ein Schließen der Absperrarmatur (2) bewirkt.

The present application discloses an air curtain combined with a mechanical extraction of smoke, released by a fire in a room, which comprises a vertical or horizontal plane jet with appropriate slope, generated by a cylindrical rotor fan enclosed in a housing with two openings, one outside the room and the other on the lower side. In this manner, this technology is useful for confining the flow of smoke, produced in fire situations in buildings, only to the room of fire origin, without the need of closing the passage ways with smoke doors, and without being necessary to set speeds for the air flowing through those passages, within the same range of the speed of the smoke flow, this being the technical problem solved. The usage of this system is compatible with current smoke exhaust means to be applied to buildings, and makes it unnecessary to inflate fresh air inside that room, once this is now done through the passage way, which remains protected by the air curtain.

Aqueous droplets encapsulated in a flame retardant polymer are useful in suppressing combustion. Upon exposure to a flame, the encapsulated aqueous droplets rupture and vaporize, removing heat and displacing oxygen to retard the combustion process. The polymer encapsulant, through decomposition, may further add free radicals to the combustion atmosphere, thereby further retarding the combustion process. The encapsulated aqueous droplets may be used as a replacement to halon, water mist and dry powder flame suppression systems.
