An object of the present invention is to provide a method of producing a saccharified solution, in which saccharified slurry is obtained by hydrothermally treating cellulosic biomass slurry in a supercritical state or a subcritical state by a continuous reactor. The method, while keeping uniform mixing of the slurry with respect to a cross section perpendicular to a mixing axis and keeping a plug flow in the axial direction, reduces the risk of a pressure reducing valve becoming clogged when the high-temperature and high-pressure slurry is flash-evaporated after being hydrothermally treated. Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for producing a saccharified solution and a continuous reactor, the apparatus and the continuous reactor being suitable for executing the saccharified solution producing method. In the present invention, at the time of hydrothermally treating the cellulosic biomass slurry by the continuous reactor continuously, the slurry is intensely stirred in a front part of the continuous reactor, and stirred in a rear part of the continuous reactor by a stirring device with low propelling force, such that the plug flow in the axial direction is kept while the slurry is being uniformly mixed with respect to the cross section perpendicular to the mixing axis. Preferably, after the saccharified slurry is diluted by using a saccharified solution, solid matter in the slurry is crushed by a crushing apparatus and the slurry is flash-evaporated.

The carbon nanotube pellets produced by the apparatus according to the present invention can improve various problems generated by scattering of powders. And since the density of the pellet form is high, transport, transfer and improvement become easier. Therefore, it can be more effectively applied to the manufacturing of composite materials.

The agitator 1 also has a stirrer 7 provided in the vessel 4 to have a stirrer rotating shaft 5 arranged in a horizontal direction and main paddles 6 fastened to the rotating shaft 5, and a multi-feeder 8 provided in the powder/particulate material discharger 3 to have both forward rotation and reverse rotation. The multi-feeder 8 has a discharger rotating shaft 81 and small-size auxiliary paddles 9 integrally rotated with the rotating shaft 81 and designed to be smaller in size than the main paddles 6. In the state of stirring the powder/particulate material in the vessel 4 by means of the stirrer 7, the agitator 1 has stirring assist function during reverse rotation of the multi-feeder 8 to cause the auxiliary paddles 9 to stir up the powder/particulate material in the powder/particulate material discharger 3 and feed the powder/particulate material back into the vessel 4. The agitator 1 also has discharge function during forward rotation of the multi-feeder 8 to discharge the powder/particulate material out of the powder/particulate material discharger 3 and the vessel 4. This arrangement effectively prevents the powder/particulate material from being accumulated in any dead space, while reducing the total height of the powder/particulate material discharger of the agitator.

The organic substances are introduced into a rotatable reaction container, and agitated therein with introduction of fresh air and continuous mixing for a period. The preparation can be associated with partial conversion of the material into biomass. The introduction and removal of the prepared material and of the biomass, respectively, into and out of, respectively, the reaction container is controlled depending on its speed of rotation and a temperature condition, which characterises the progress of the conversion reaction, in the reaction container. The preparation apparatus (20) comprises an essentially closed housing (23) with an inlet opening (21) and with a bottom (24) at the base, a mixing and comminuting device (25) in the region of the bottom, a device for introducing fresh air into the interior of the housing (23), a closable outlet opening (22) at a higher level than the bottom (24) and a conveying device (26) to transport the material between the bottom (24) and the outlet opening (22).
