摘要: A method of forming metal castings, including positioning a first end of a structural member in a first mold cavity and a second end of the structural member in a second mold cavity. The first and second mold cavities being fluidly coupled to a reservoir of molten metal. Applying a main pressure to the molten metal in the reservoir to force the molten metal into the first mold cavity and the second mold cavity. Then, applying a first auxiliary pressure to the first mold cavity and a second auxiliary pressure to the second mold cavity to density the casting formed in the first mold cavity and the second mold cavity. Also, a method for casting including maintaining a main pressure at or less than an initial, mold-filling pressure after first and second mold cavities have been filled. Additionally, a method for detecting whether a first mold cavity is sufficiently filled with molten metal by monitoring a moveable element.

摘要: Method and apparatus for creating a molded product by first liquefying a metal in a crucible disposed in a crucible chamber and then applying a differential pressure level to the liquefied metal so as to force the liquefied metal into a mold. Once the liquefied metal is drawn into the mold, the pressure of the liquefied metal in the mold is raised to a solidification pressure in oscillating pressure steps. Once the pressure is raised to the solidification pressure, the liquefied metal is allowed to solidify.

摘要: The invention concerns a casting plant and a method of producing castings. The casting plant consists of operatively and kinematically connected units in the form of linear or rotating conveying devices (1) with casting moulds (3) which are disposed therein and to the underside of which is flanged a feeder pressure pot (6) with a re-compression unit (17) and a shut-off valve unit (32). A casting or residual metal take-up station (59) is disposed below the casting moulds and comprises a pressurized furnace (60), a movable pressure line (77) and a movable return line (95) with its actuating device (88) on the furnace cover (70), the pressure chamber of the pressurized furnace being filled with molten mass (73). By interlocking the pressure line (77) with the shut-off valve unit (32) the molten mass (73) is urged under gas pressure into the casting mould (3) via the pressure line (77), shut-off valve (32) and feeder pressure pot (6). When the feeder pressure pot has been closed, the pressure of the molten mass can be increased as required via the pressure piston (20). At the same time, the column of metal is lowered via the pressure line (77) which is returned to its initial position. The casting mould (3) leaves the casting and residual metal take-up station (59), the casting (2) hardening in a cooling section. Before the casting is removed, the residual molten mass in the feeder pressure pot (6) is diverted into the pressurized furnace (60) as a result of the return line (95) being interlocked with the shut-off valve unit (32). When the return line (95) has been lowered and the casting removed, the casting mould is refilled.

摘要: A closed system (10) and method that includes a source of pressurizeable molten lead connected to a mold (11) having a mold cavity (20) therein with the mold maintainable at sufficiently low temperature so that a charge of molten lead located in the mold cavity solidifies to thereby form a solidified casting in the mold cavity. A housing (215) having a runner (214), is maintainable at sufficiently high temperature to maintain the molten lead in a molten state so that the mold cavity can be refilled with a fresh charge molten lead when a solidified casting is removed therefrom without introducing air to the closed system. A shut-off valve (239), having an open position to allow a charge of molten lead to flow into the mold cavity and a closed position to prevent molten lead from flowing out of the runner as the molten lead in mold cavity solidifies with the shut-off valve configurable to intensify the pressure of the lead in the mold cavity. The intensification mode being monitorable so that when the state of molten enters a liquid-to-solid transformation stage, the volume of the mold available for the lead to solidify therein is quickly reduced through a volume contraction step to thereby cause the molten lead to flow into the remaining volume at the same time one maintains pressure on the molten lead. As the molten lead solidifies under the reduced volume and high pressure it produces a battery part that is substantially free of both tears and cracks. In an alternate intensification method, the lead is allowed to solidify and at least a portion of the lead is mechanically deformed through a volume contraction step to cause cracks or tears in the battery part to be eliminated thereby providing a battery part free of cracks or tears. In another method of forming a pressure cast battery part free of cracks a molten lead under pressure is flowed into a battery part cavity and the pressure of the molten lead is increased to sufficiently high pressure so that when the molten lead solidifies it forms a battery part free of cracks and voids.
