Gemäß der Erfindung werden die zu entgratenden Werkstücke (12) zusammen mit einem ferromagnetischen Entgratmittel (13) innerhalb eines geschlossenen, nichtferro magnetischen und elektrisch nichtleitenden Behälters (11) einem elektromagnetischen Dreh- oder Wanderfeld (15) zB eines Linearmotors (14) ausgesetzt. Nach dem Einschalten des Linearmotors (14) wird durch das elektromagnetische Wanderfeld das Entgratmittel (13) bewegt und verwirbelt. Die Werkstücke (12) werden mit dem Entgratmittel (13) beaufschlagt und dadurch entgratet. Durch die Größe der felderzeugenden Spannung kann die Verwirbelung (15) des Entgratmittels (13) und damit die Entgratwirkung variiert werden. Auch im Werkstück enthaltene kleine gratbehaftete Durchbrüche werden nach und nach entgratet.

Embodiments of the invention use an alternating current electromagnet (48) driven by a signal generator (50) to constantly alter the rheology of the magnetorheological fluid (5).
