The concepts herein relate to a closing element (1) for containers for liquids, in particular bottles. The closing element (1) comprises at least a cork sheet (2) having two opposite main faces (2a, 2b) and at least a layer of insulating material (7), impermeable to liquids and to air and/or gases, coupled to the cork sheet (2). The layer of insulating material (7), at least partly covers at least one of said two main faces (2a, 2b). The cork sheet (2) and the layer of insulating material (7) are rolled so as to define the closing element (1) by an alternated winding of the cork sheet (2) and the layer of insulating material (7), and the layer of insulating material (7) and the alternated winding are configured and predisposed to make the closing element (1) impermeable or to liquids and air and/or gases. The mechanical winding is guaranteed by a partial and spotted gluing of the surfaces, usually only at the external end thereof.

The present invention provides a sheet of polymeric foam comprising chemically cross-linked, closed-cell, foam comprising at least one polyolefin; cork particles dispersed within said polymeric foam wherein said foam has a specific gravity of between 40-250 kg/m3 and is essentially free of visible perforations. Also provided by the present invention is a process for producing a continuous polymeric sheet said comprising a chemically cross-linked, closed-cell, polyolefin foam comprising at least one polyolefin and cork particles, homogenously dispersed within the polyolefin foam wherein once produced, said continuous polymeric sheet has a specific gravity of between 40-250 kg/m3 and is essentially free of visible perforations; the process comprising (i) continuously feeding into a mixing arrangement set at a temperature of between 60 C and 200 C a blend of at least one polyolefin resin, a blowing agent, a cross-linking agent and cork particles, to form therein a homogenous melt; (ii) transferring said melt into an extrusion line constructed to form a continuous sheet of said melt; (iii) conveying the continuous sheet into a heating module for heating said continuous sheet to a first temperature allowing cross-linking of said at least one polyolefin resin to obtain a cross-linked polyolefin sheet, said first temperature being lower than that required for activating said blowing agent; and (iv) heating the cross-linked polyolefin sheet to a second temperature allowing activation of said blowing agent, to obtain said continuous polymeric foam.

The invention relates to a method of sealing a gap (5) between two adjacent members (la,lb) selected from wood, cork, and plastic, said gap (5) having walls (3) and a bottom (2) comprising the steps of: a. melting a polyamide composition having a softening point above 80°C, b. filling the gap with the molten polyamide composition, c. solidifying the polyamide composition, thereby forming a seal between the two adjacent members (la,lb). The invention pertains further to methods for removing and repairing said seals, and to a device for use in the above method.

The invention relates to a sound absorber, especially for motor vehicles, and a method for the production thereof. The aim of the invention is to create an acoustically effective part for motor vehicles, which is provided with high thermal resistance and great restoring power when impinged by pressure in addition to having a great sound-absorbing effect. Said aim is achieved by a sound absorber formed from an open-cell molded part (7) that is produced from cork particles and thermally reactive binding agent, the ratio of the binding agent relative to the molded part (7) amounting to a maximum of 1 to 20 percent by weight. The inventive sound absorber is produced by introducing the cork particles, along with the thermally reactive binding agent, into a hollow space (4) of a molding tool that is embodied as an injection mold. Preferably, the binding agent is caused to bind by impinging the binding agent placed in the hollow space (4) of the molding tool (1) with steam (20).
