Die erfindungsgemäße Vorrichtung ermöglicht die Verarbeitung von sich selbst aufspleißendem doppelseitigen Klebeband und besteht aus einer Lineareinheit (10), an der eine Quertraverse (13) sowie eine Führungsschiene (11) vorgesehen sind, auf der ein Auftragsgerät (30) parallel oder geneigt zur Achse der Vorratspapierbahnrolle (50) verschiebbar ist. An einem Grundkörper (31) des Auftragsgeräts (30) ist ein gegenüber dem Grundkörper (31) verschiebbares Schiebestück (32) vorgesehen, an dem eine Halterung (35) zum Abwickeln einer Klebebandrolle (45) und eine weitere Halterung (36) zum Aufwickeln eines Schutzbandes (81, 91), eine Auftragseinheit (37) mit Gleitstücken (38), mindestens eine Auftragsrolle (39) sowie ein Schneidmesser (40) für das Klebeband (80, 90) und/oder Schutzband (81, 91) sowie ein Papierschneidmesser (41) angeordnet sind. Mit den erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren wird unter Verwendung der Vorrichtung beidseitig klebendes Klebeband auf die Vorratspapierbahnrolle (50) aufgebracht, die Schutzschicht (81, 91) sowie das Klebeband (80, 90) gegebenenfalls abgeschnitten und ein vorbestimmter Papierbahnanfang (53) an der Vorratspapierbahnrolle (50) hergestellt.

An automatic tape crossover machine having two feeding mechanisms 210 to supply running 108 and new 110 tapes, respectively. A powered cutter 112 is provided through which the running tape 108 is to pass and be cut in response to a cut signal, where the cutter 112 is positioned downstream of the first tape feed mechanism 210. The machine also includes a joining mechanism 116 at which a portion of the new tape 110 is to be joined to the running tape 108 in response to a join signal. Control circuitry automatically determines whether a tape exhaustion condition has been reached and asserts the join and cut signals to join the running 108 and new 110 tapes and to cut the running tape 108, before the tape feeding mechanism is emptied to the running tape 108. The machines thus allows the automatic transition from the running tape 108 to the new tape 110, i.e. without requiring the presence or manual assistance of a human operator when joining the two tapes. In addition, the process line speed need not be altered for the crossover, thereby reducing the probability of inconsistencies in product quality.
