The invention relates to a method and a device for melt spinning, treating and winding a synthetic thread. The thread is pulled off, guided and treated after melt spinning by a treatment device and is wound onto a coil by a winding device. Said thread is guided vertically from the melt spinning process to the winding process over several levels. In order to maintain short operating times, in particular when the process is started or interrupted, the treatment device is operated from a first upper operational platform. The winding device is operated in a second lower operating platform. The thread is monitored in a transitional area between the treatment device and the winding device by means of a thread monitor.

Nach Fadenunterbrechungen wird das Fadenende von der Auflaufspule (4) abgewickelt, die Fadenverbindung zwischen Fadenquelle und Auflaufspule (4) wieder hergestellt und der Aufwickelvorgang dann fortgesetzt, wenn eine tolerierbare Fadenverbindungsstelle vorliegt. Beim Auftreten einer Fadenunterbrechung wird die seit der letzten Fadenverbindung aufgewickelte Garnmenge bestimmt. Wenn die nach Wiederbeginn des Aufwickelvorgangs nach der letzten Fadenverbindung aufgewickelte Garnmenge nicht bereits eine vorgegebene Garnmenge erreicht hat, wird so viel Garn von der Auflaufspule (4) abgewickelt und abgetrennt, daß die zuletzt tolerierte Fadenverbindungsstelle im abgetrennten Fadenabschnitt liegt. Dies führt zu einer optischen Qualitätsverbesserung des textilen Fertigproduktes.

In conventional automatic winders, during knotting, a belt traverse device is reversely rotated in response to the reverse rotation of a drum, causing a yarn to be caught at a traverse end. According to the present invention, a clutch device is interposed between a speed change mechanism section 10 and traverse mechanism section 20, and during knotting, the clutch device is disconnected to block power transmission to the traverse mechanism section 20. The clutch device comprises a ball clutch comprising an output gear 15 having balls 15a buried therein and a clutch plate 14 having as many clutch holes as the balls in which the balls are fitted. The speed change mechanism section and the traverse mechanism section can be connected together only with a set phase.
