A process for separating hydrogen gas from a stream of a mixture of gases containing the hydrogen gas includes contacting a suspension of hydride-forming material particles in a fluid medium with the stream to permit the particles to form a hydride. The hydrided particles can then be thermally decomposed to liberate hydrogen and to regenerate the hydride-forming capabilities of the particles. By preference, the fluidized bed is a slurry mixture of the hydride-forming material particles in an auxiliary liquid such as, for example, a heat resistant oil. The amount of hydride-forming particles in the slurry mixture is preferably between about 10% to about 70% by weight.
