Abstract:
A curing agent for epoxy resin has one or more five- or six-membered aromatic rings, and substituted on the one or more five- or six-membered rings at least two functionalities reactive with the epoxy selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl, amine, imidazole, azine, hydrazide, anhydride, and Lewis acid groups. Choice of functionality can provide a mixed polymer network, one with a more densely cross-linked polymer structure having a high Tg, and the other with a more linear polymer structure to contribute to stress reduction.
Abstract:
An epoxy resin composition having a curing component and an epoxy component is disclosed. The curing component includes an amount of about 8% to about 70% by weight of the composition of a primary curing agent and about 0.001% to about 5% by weight of the composition of a secondary curing agent. The present disclosure includes the use of solid secondary curing agents, in particular solvated secondary curing agents, and methods to formulate such a solvated solid to result in a liquid curing component. The epoxy composition also includes about 30% to about 92% by weight of the composition of the epoxy component. A number of equivalents of reactive curative groups in the curing component is from about 0.50 to 0.98 times the number of epoxide equivalents present in the epoxy component. An epoxy product formed from the epoxy resin composition is also disclosed.

Abstract:
Imidazoline functionalized oxidized fatty substance emulsifiers are made by obtaining a fatty substance composition; performing an oxidative oligomerization of the fatty substance composition to produce an oxidized fatty substance composition comprising from about 10 to about 75% by weight of oligomeric fatty acid components based on the total weight of fatty acid containing components in the composition; reacting the oxidized fatty substance composition with a polyamine comprising at least one ethylene diamine functional group with at least three hydrogens attached to the two nitrogens to form an aminoethylamido functionalized oxidized fatty substance composition; and forming an imidazoline functionalized oxidized fatty substance emulsifier from the aminoethylamido functionalized oxidized fatty substance composition. Such compositions are particularly useful in asphalt applications and corrosion inhibition.

An ISO tensile test piece, which is obtained by injection moulding at a die temperature of 90°C and a cylinder temperature of 200°C, is crushed, Soxhlet extraction is performed for 3 hours at 70°C using methanol, and the alkylene glycol polymer is measured. The weight of the alkylene glycol polymer is 0.001 wt% or less relative to 100 wt% of the test piece.
