The invention relates to an improved method for coating a cheese, wherein a coating composition comprising lactic acid polymer, is applied to a surface of the cheese, wherein the coating composition (i) does not comprise an addedsource of lactic acid bacteriaand (ii) comprises free carboxylic acidand/or free carboxylate groups. The invention also relates to the corresponding coating composition, use thereof for coating cheese and the coated cheeses. It was found that the cheesecoating compositions according to the invention are an excellent renewable and environmentally friendly alternative to petrochemical-based coatings such as polyvinyl acetate coatings.

The present invention discloses a method of enabling the easy separation of labels, including wrap around labels and sleeve labels, particularly shrink sleeve labels, from containers during recycling through the use of a specially formulated coating to be applied in the seam area. The coatings ensure proper bonding, and shrink properties, of the labels, and have been designed to help de-bonding of the seam in a hot caustic wash step, or a solvent wash step. The method does not rely on floatation separation and therefore may be applied to any container/label material combination regardless of their specific gravity differences.

Described herein is a feasible, significantly simplified production method that avoids challenging lactonization steps and converts a low molecular weight aliphatic polyester, consisting of hydroxy acids and a comonomer, whose molecular weight has been increased by step-growth polymerization reactions. The molecular weight of the aliphatic polyester, based on comparison of initial and final weight average molecular weights (Mw,1/Mw,2), increased significantly at a rate which permits the use of reactive extrusion to produce high molecular weight aliphatic polyesters in a simple, economically feasible manner.
