The present invention provides a novel needle-punched nonwoven felt fabric which is made of same or substantially similar melting point short fibers of same type or different types, preferably made of one melting point short fibers of same type, wherein the felt fabric is stiff enough to be self-sustaining and has the ability of shape maintenance. The felt fabric exhibits excellent pleatability, moldability and compressive strength. The invention also provides a method for manufacturing the felt fabric, and a filter comprising the felt fabric used as the material of a filter element of the filter, wherein the filter element requires no support structure to stand alone and persistently retains its shape. The present invention further provides use of the felt fabric as a sound absorbing material.

The present invention relates to a device and method for improving felting properties of animal fibres by plasma treatment. The invention disclosed here includes a dielectric barrier discharge plasma source, preferably a diffuse coplanar surface dielectric barrier discharge plasma source with at least two systems of electrically conductive electrodes (2) and (3) that are situated inside of the dielectric body (4) and are situated on the same side of the layer (1) pelt of the loose animal fibres or the fur-bearing side of the animal layer (1) pelt affected by the plasma layer (5) generated above the portion of the surface (6) of the dielectric body (4). The present invention relates also to a method for improving felting properties of animal fibres, which method consists of affecting such animal fibres with electrical plasma generated at the gas pressure from 1 kPa to 500 kPa with the plasma process gas containing oxygen and/or water vapor.

A multi-layered non-woven hygroscopic fibrous textile material and method of making said material is disclosed. The fibres of the material extend across the thickness of the material and respectively opposite outer layers of fibres are fixed in a matted state relative to the inner fibres. The extent of matting is sufficient to increase thermal insulation per unit thickness relative to the inner fibres, whilst still permitting the outer layer fibres to allow air circulation between and through the outer fibres, to thereby permit moisture retention or release.

The invention concerns an insulating element made out of mineral fibers, which are bounded together with a fixing agent and/or by mechanical processing such as needling, felting or the like. The element has at least one mineral fiber layer and at least one surface layer. The surface layer presents a bigger apparent density at least in certain parts as compared to the mineral fiber layer. The invention seeks to create an insulating element that can be easily processed and recycled when dismantled. To this end, a coating having affinity with the bonding agent or the plastering agent is applied at least on the surface layer showing greater apparent density. Said coating has a different coloring than the mineral fiber layer.
