A method of charging fibrous webs with nonaqueous polar liquids. A web (20) that contains nonconductive fibers is wetted with a nonaqueous polar liquid (14). The web (20) is then substantially dried (22) to provide a fibrous electret web. The fibrous electret web can be used as a filter in a filtration face mask (40) that is adapted to cover the nose and mouth of the wearer. The present method has the advantage over known charging methods in that the nonaqueous liquid requires less energy for drying than is required for aqueous liquids. Additionally, many filter webs can be directly wetted with nonaqueous liquids, which cannot be easily wetted with aqueous liquids.

The present disclosure describes a surfactant treatment for a polyolefinic nonwoven fabric used to wrap items to be sterilized. The surfactant treatment consists essentially of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The surfactant treated sterile wrap has a BFE after electret treatment and after sterilization of at least 97 percent. This treatment should produce fewer wet packs than the same fabric after electret treatment and after sterilization but without such surfactant treatment.

One composition is an aqueous emulsion comprising: a dry soil resistant and water and oil repellent fluorochemical treatment and an effective amount of one or more fluorochemical surfactants wherein the surfactants comprising one or two fluorochemical groups and one or two water-solubilizing polar groups. La condensation se produit, de façon appropriée, en présence de composés acides et l'oxydation s'effectue en particulier avec du peroxyde d'hydrogène. Les composés ont une utilisation comme adoucissants des textiles.
