There is provided a roof cladding consisting of elements (10) of recycled plastics, material comprising a body portion (11), a batten engagement portion (12) located at the leading edge (14) of the body portion (11) and a batten back stop (13) being a transverse rib located on the underside of the body portion (11) at a spacing from the batten engagement means (12) determined by the pitch or spacing of the roofing battens (15). The batten engagement portion (12) comprises a downward depending web (16) adapted to bear on the up-slope face of the roofing batten (15), and a lower web (17) extending therefrom to lay adjacent the under surface of the batten (15) in use. The edge of the lower web (17) toward the leading edge (14) is provided with a locking lug (20) in the form of a ridge adapted to pass the batten (15) against the resilient bias of the downward depending web (16) and the lower web (17), to engage the leading face of the roof batten (15). The clearance between the body portion (11) and the lower web (17) is such that the space accommodates the trailing edge (21) of an adjacent roofing element (10) to trap the trailing edge (21) between the underside of the body portion (11) and the batten (15). Further installed security is provided by the backstop (13) engaging the upper leading edge of the adjacent batten (15).

The roof tile (12) also has a flat, bottomed channel (62) with sloping side walls (68,70), the channel (62) extending from a toe to head end of the main roof tile (12). The channel (62) has a widening towards the middle of its length. The set of roof tiles also comprises a ridge tile (2), which is substantially of half round configuration and is provided with a channel (24) having sloping side walls (30,32), the channel (24) extending over the ridge tile to continue the configuration of the main roof tiles (12). The ridge tiles (2) are also provided with protuberances (42) at lower edges that engage in use with upper faces of the topmost roof tiles (12) on either side of an apex (4) of a roof (6), which protuberances (42) define a ventilation opening (41) between the ridge tiles (2) and the topmost roof tiles (12). Pervious sealing members, provided by grills, strips of foam or a combination thereof are attached to the ridge tiles (2) to bridge the ventilation openings (41) and facilitate the fast assembly of the ridge of a roof. The set of tiles, which also includes ridge end caps (8) and verge tiles (14), are moulded from concrete and have a density of between 2.11 to 2.16 g/cm3 and a durability of over 400DIN freeze/thaw cycles.

The fiber cement article can be profiled to resemble a roofing article such as a wood shake or slate. The fiber cement article incorporates a hydrophobe and a viscosity enhancing agent that are each selected to control the rate of hydration of the binder. The fiber cement article is durable, is walkable and nailable without cracking during installation and maintains walkablilty after exposure in service.

The inventive cover (1) consists of a metal that reacts with moisture, is produced by punching and bending plate-shaped material and is provided with a structured reaction surface (2). A raised part (4) is provided along at least one front face (1a) of the roof cover (1). The raised part can be designed in the form of a bow (10) which allows for a secure and easy assembly by means of hooks (12) and additionally inhibits water from draining off, especially in connection with bulb edges.
