Abstract:
To construct a valve opening and closing timing control apparatus which may restrain a fluctuation of a relative rotational phase by a supply of fluid to an advanced angle chamber and a retarded angle chamber even in a case where a leakage amount of fluid from the advanced angle chamber and the retarded angle chamber increases with an increase of a temperature. A driven-side rotational member is connected to a camshaft by a mounting member and a spool is movably provided at an inner portion of a tubular wall portion of the mounting member. A first flow passage connecting a first port of the tubular wall portion and the advanced angle chamber to each other and a second flow passage connecting a second port of the tubular wall portion and the retarded angle chamber to each other are provided at the driven-side rotational member. A thermal expansion coefficient of a material forming the driven-side rotational member is greater than a thermal expansion coefficient of a material forming the mounting member.
Abstract:
A cylinder head of an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head main body which is formed with a main body side plug insertion hole into which an ignition plug is inserted, a cam holder which is fixed to the cylinder head main body and forms cam bearing portions together with the cylinder head main body, wherein the cam bearing portions rotatably support an intake camshaft and an exhaust camshaft, respectively, and wherein the cam holder is formed with a holder side plug insertion hole which communicates with the main body side plug insertion hole and into which the ignition plug is inserted, and a knock pin which is disposed across the main body side plug insertion hole and the holder side plug insertion hole to restrict assembly positions of the cam holder and the cylinder head main body.
Abstract:
A valve actuation system is described containing a collapsible pushrod device for use in a reciprocating piston machine cylinder such as an engine. The collapsible pushrod device replaces a conventional pushrod. The system can include a driver base, plunger, and a deactivation pin assembly. In normal operation, the pins lock the driver base and plunger together thereby providing regular valve motion. Under selected conditions, the pin assembly controller unlocks the driver base from the plunger. Valve lift is reduced or eliminated. When eliminated, the cylinder is deactivated. The system can vary the effective compression ratio between higher for cold starting and other selected operating conditions and lower for warmed-up running, as well as trap additional exhaust residuals to assist starting and light load. This is especially useful for Diesel engines. Various means may be used to unlock the pins including oil pressure, bi-metal spring temperature, or electromagnetic activation. The telescoping motion which limits the motion of the valve may occur in one or more steps.
Abstract:
Systems for actuating at least two engine valves comprise a valve bridge operatively connected to the at least two engine valves and having a hydraulically-actuated lost motion component. The lost motion component comprises a lost motion check valve disposed therein. A rocker arm has a motion receiving end configured to receive valve actuation motions from a valve actuation motion source and a motion imparting end for conveying the valve actuation motions and hydraulic fluid to the lost motion component. The rocker arm is in fluid communication with a hydraulic fluid supply. The systems also comprise an accumulator in fluid communication with the hydraulic fluid supply and disposed upstream of the lost motion check valve. In all embodiments, a fluid supply check valve may be disposed upstream of the accumulator and configured to prevent flow of hydraulic fluid from the accumulator back to the hydraulic fluid supply.

Abstract:
A method of remanufacturing a rocker arm having a body defining a socket portion is disclosed. The method includes machining the socket portion to remove a worn surface and form a seat configured to receive an insert member therein. The method further includes disposing the insert member within the seat and coupling the insert member to the seat.
Abstract:
A valve timing control apparatus of an internal combustion engine may include a driving rotational body to which torque is transmitted from a crankshaft, a driven rotational body fixed to a camshaft to which torque is transmitted from the driving rotational body, an electric motor disposed between the driving rotational body and the driven rotational body and relatively rotating the driving rotational body and the driven rotational body when electric power is applied thereto, and a deceleration mechanism that decelerates a rotational speed of the electrical motor and transmit the decelerated rotational speed to the driven rotational body.
