    摘要: An exhaust muffler 10 includes an expansion chamber 11 into which engine exhaust gas is introduced, and a sound deadening element 13 inside the expansion chamber 11. The sound deadening element 13 is configured from a knitted article formed by knitting continuous fibres of glass fibre. The exhaust muffler 10 further includes an inner pipe 17 spaced from an inner circumferential wall 26 of the expansion chamber 11 and configured so that the exhaust gas can be introduced therethrough. The sound deadening element 13 is disposed between an outer circumferential wall 23 of the inner pipe 17 and the inner circumferential wall 26 of the expansion chamber 11.
    This provides an exhaust muffler in which the anti-scattering property of a sound deadening element is high and where shaping of the sound deadening element is not required. The invention also extends to the sound deadening element itself.

    摘要: A pollutant reducing exhaust manifold for an internal combustion engine incorporating a catalytic converter therein. The manifold has a plurality of header pipes connected to and receiving exhaust gases from respective ones of a plurality of exhaust ports of an internal combustion engine. The header pipes are connected to a single chamber with an outlet therefrom connected to an exhaust pipe as well as a catalytic converter structure having a catalyst disposed on a supporting substrate disposed in the chamber between the inlet(s) and the outlet so that all exhaust gases from the engine must pass through the catalytic converter structure. The catalytic converter operates at higher temperatures for increased efficiency and comes to operating temperature virtually immediately.
