In a vessel, an inlet and an outlet are arranged, at least one of which is designed as a diffuser. In order to increase the strength of the diffuser, it is proposed to remove parts from pipe material of relatively high thickness, so that windows are formed. These windows, with relatively large openings, are then covered with plates of perforated material. These are preferably situated on the upstream side of the pipe.
