Die Erfindung betrifft eine selbstzündende Brennkraftmaschine mit einem Kurbelgehäuse, in dem eine Kurbelwelle drehbar gelagert ist, an der zumindest ein einen Kolben tragendes Pleuel angelenkt ist, wobei der Kolben in einen von einem Zylinderkopf unter Bildung eines Arbeitsraum abgedeckten Zylinder bewegbar ist, wobei in den Zylinderkopf mit dem Arbeitsraum kommunizierende und von einer Gaswechselnockenwelle betätigte Gaswechseleinrichtungen eingesetzt sind und in den Arbeitsraum über ein Einspritzventil eines Common-Rail-Einspritzsystems Kraftstoff zuführbar ist, wobei das Rail von zumindest einer Hochdruckpumpe, die über einen Rollenstößel von einer Gaswechselnockenwelle angetrieben wird, mit Kraftstoff befüllt wird. Erfindungsgemäß wird eine selbstzündende Brennkraftmaschine bereitgestellt, an die, ausgehend von einem konventionellen Einspritzsystem in Form beispielsweise einer Reiheneinspritzpumpe oder einer Verteilereinspritzpumpe, mit möglichst wenig tiefgreifenden Änderungen ein Common-Rail-Einspritzsystem angebaut werden kann. Dies wird dadurch erreicht, dass die Hochdruckpumpe stirnseitig der Brennkraftmaschine angeordnet ist und dass zumindest der Rollenstößel in ein mit dem Kurbelgehäuse verbundenes Gehäuse eingesetzt ist.
