    摘要: A UV flame sensor for detecting a run-on condition in a flame detector tube is disclosed. The UV flame sensor comprises a pair of secondary electrodes that are enclosed in a mesotube to form a breakdown chamber in order to detect the run-on condition. These secondary electrodes are exposed to UV through an aperture in a cathode plate and are energized continuously by a lower voltage. The mesotube is expected to break down when the run-on condition occurs. The secondary electrodes can be placed in the same gas environment as the main electrodes that may take different forms, shapes and locations.

    摘要: Apparatus for monitoring a hydrocarbon flame to determine and possibly adjust its combustion stoichiometry comprises three sensors (6,8 and 10), of which one (10) is responsive to electromagnetic radiation emitted by the flame in a narrow wavelength band corresponding to a transient species only existing for a short time within the combustion region (e.g. 310 nm corresponding to OH). The other two sensors (6,8) are responsive to radiation emitted by the flame in narrow wavelength bands corresponding to non-transient species. Thus, one of the other two sensors (6) can be responsive to IR radiation emitted by a product of combustion (e.g. H 2 O at 2.9 µm), and the second one (8) can be responsive to radiation in a narrow wavelength band corresponding to a different product of combustion or to emission from the hot hydrocarbon fuel in the flame (at 3.35 µm). The ratio of the output corresponding to the radiation emitted by the transient species to the output of one of the other sensors is found to vary significantly with the air/fuel ratio in the combustion region. The ratio produced by comparing the outputs of the other two sensors (6,8), responsive to the non-transient species, is also measured. This does not vary significantly with the air/fuel ratio. In this way, a central processing unit (24) can analyse the results of the two comparisons, compare the result with stored data, indicate the air/fuel ratio, and can also automatically control the air/fuel ratio. The CPU (24) can compare the power value from each sensor signal in a predetermined frequency band. Instead, the cross-correlation coefficients can be measured for the pairs of signals compared.
