Modifying the incineration temperature in response to changes in the emission products and the waste streams results in optimal and reliable control of the incineration process and the resultant incineration emissions. Capital and operating costs are reduced significantly as a result.

The present invention presents a combustion control method of a refuse incinerator for the purpose of decreasing CO, NOx concentration and dioxins in exhaust gas. Accordingly, on the basis of the measured values of principal flue thermometer, O2 densitometer, CO densitpmeter and NOx densitometer, the quantity of secondary combustion air is controlled so as to suppress the generation of NOx, and said quantity of secondary combustion air is adjusted in accordance with the O2 concentration for minimising the concentration of percursors of dioxins, whereby the concentration of precursors of dioxins is estimated from the mutual relation of the concentration of said precursors of dioxins and O2 concentration in said exhaust gas, so as to suppress the generation of dioxins in said exhaust gas. A combustion control apparatus of a refuse incinerator to carry out the control method according to the invention is also presented.

A control system for an incineration plant, comprising an incineration furnace with a combustion path along which the material to be burned is transported, air supply means, a steam generator, and control means with a steam controller and an oxygen controller which, depending on respectively the generated amount of steam and the oxygen in the furnace, generate control signals for adjusting the size and/or speed of a stream of material in the furnace and/or for adjusting the air supplied. The control signals control the generated amount of steam to a first adjusting value and via air supplied the amount of oxygen to a second adjusting value. The steam controller controls a summing device which forms a sum signal used which via calculating means modifies the output signals of control circuits controlled by the output signal of the oxygen controller for the air supply to the furnace and/or the size of the supply stream of material to the furnace and the speed of the stream of material through the furnace respectively, to obtain definitive control signals.
