The invention relates to a process for drying a moist polymeric material to obtain a dried polymeric material, comprising the steps of: mixing the moist polymeric material with an aqueous solution of a carbohydrate to afford a mixture of the moist polymeric material with the carbohydrate; and heating and/or filtering the mixture of the moist polymeric material with the carbohydrate to remove an amount of volatiles to obtain a predried polymeric material having a volatiles content VCpre-dried (pre-drying step); fluidizing the pre-dried material in a fluidized bed in order to further remove an amount of volatiles to obtain the dried polymeric material having a volatiles content VCdried (fluidized bed drying step); and withdrawing and collecting the dried polymeric material from the fluidized bed; wherein VCpre-dried is higher than VCdried and the moist polymeric material comprises at least a polymeric material, said polymeric material comprises fluorine permanently bonded to said polymeric material. The invention further relates to a dried polymeric material obtainable by the process of the invention. Furthermore, the invention relates to various uses of the process of the invention as well as to various uses of the dried polymeric materials.

Drill cuttings associated with drilling fluid are thermally cleaned. The wet cuttings are fed into a vessel chamber having mechanical mixers, such as ribbon blenders, extending lengthwise of the chamber. Direct heating is applied to the chamber contents by introducing hot combustion gas from a heater. A combination of direct heating and mechanical back mixing of wet colder cuttings with drier hotter cuttings results in conditioning and conduction heating of the wet cuttings. The drilling fluid is evaporated and removed as gas. Dried cuttings are separately recovered. Caking and agglomeration of the solids is reduced.

A system and a method for reducing the level of moisture of fluent materials or wet solid materials, characterized in that the material to be treated is provided in a particle form and then exposed to a relatively high volumetric flow of gas treating medium which is drawn through the material so as to force the moisture in the center of each individual piece to migrate towards the periphery thereof where it can be easily evaporated. Air at ambient temperature may be used as gas treating medium so as to minimize the level of energy required to provide an efficient drying operation.
