    摘要: The present invention overcomes deficiencies of existing line-calling devices by leveraging a single fixed-location camera to identify object state conditions that resolve object-tracking problems that otherwise require multi-camera or moving-camera solutions. Though described in the context of an automated tennis line-calling device, the invention is equally applicable to other object-tracking problems that can be resolved by identifying object state conditions without employing moving or multiple cameras. The tennis line-calling device is attached to (or at least located in proximity to) the net post of a tennis court, thereby enabling a “close-up” view of both static (court lines) and moving (ball, players, etc.) objects. In one embodiment, integration of a video camera system with line-calling functionality provides additional benefits, including attachment of a single turnkey device to any tennis net post so as to provide automated line-calling functionality without the need for any external video cameras or processing functionality.

    摘要: This disclosure describes a method for measuring the path and orientation of a golf club during a swing. Of particular interest is the orientation of the club face and its path prior to, at and just after impact with the ball. Golfers and club manufactures are interested in this information for swing improvement and club design. The key measurements are the face orientation and path relative to the ball, these are: horizontal path, vertical path, face open/close, face loft, face lie and ball impact position on the face. The disclosure additionally defines a means for accurately measuring the orientation of the club head and shaft throughout the entire swing. The technique may use an inertial navigation system attached to the head or shaft in conjunction with the camera system. An important feature of the method is the ease of use in that it provides accurate results without complex calibration procedures.

    摘要: A method is described for indicating an outcome of a sports action by determining a trajectory of a game-object. In football, the trajectory of the football determines the outcome of a field goal attempt. A television viewer has difficulty seeing if the ball passes between the uprights or not, especially if the ball is kicked higher than the uprights. By tracking the trajectory, virtual insertions such as extended goal posts, or goal posts colored to reflect the success or not of the attempt, can be inserted in a video feed. By tracking the flight of the ball from the time it is set in motion, the balls future trajectory is predicted after a short elapsed time, and the television audience is informed of the outcome before it has happened.
