A computer system and method is disclosed including a vault application to facilitate the transacting of game assets represented by tokens managed by a smart contract via a hybrid approach that permits certain transactions of game assets to be conducted using an in-game centralized database approach (which does not necessarily include a decentralized network) and other transactions to be managed on a decentralized network, via a blockchain or other distributed ledger technology (DLT) network.

A clearinghouse system for use is transferring a value of a first voucher ticket issued by and associated with a first gaming facility to a second voucher ticket associated with a second gaming facility. The voucher ticket can be provided on paper or in electronic or digital format. The clearing house can deduct a fee for the conversion. The voucher ticket can include a coded machine readable image representing either a serial number or a financial value. The coded machine readable image can be encoded using an encoding scheme that is proprietary to the voucher ticket issuing party. The clearinghouse is in communication with each ticket voucher database of each respective gaming facility to appropriately revise the database with any impact from the transaction transferring the value from one voucher ticket to a second voucher ticket.

A gaming machine for and method of tracking the activity of a user of a gaming machine includes a server with a database, the server being connected in communication with the gaming machine. Assigning an account number to a user and creating a tracking ticket for said user. The tracking ticket, in one embodiment, is erasable and re-printable and includes a respective code for the account number, but may not display personally identifiable information. The gaming machine provokes creation of a record in said database and assigns the account number to the record as a key value.

Disclosed herein are techniques for communicating between an electronic gaming machine and a mobile computing device. In some implementations, a first communication session with a mobile computing device may be provided at an electronic gaming machine. The first communication session may be conducted via a first wireless communication protocol at a first range proximate the electronic gaming machine. A communication session initiation identifier for initiating a second communication session may be transmitted from the electronic gaming machine to the mobile computing device via the first communication session. Based on the communication session initiation identifier, a second communication session with the mobile computing device may be provided at an electronic gaming machine. The second communication session may be conducted via a second wireless communication protocol at a second range. The second range may be wider than the first range.

Techniques for allowing a gaming machine to exercise control over a picture-in-picture device (PIP mixer). A gaming machine includes a display device, a master game controller, the PIP mixer, and a PIP control interface. The master gaming controller is configured to execute a wager game, send a first video signal for the wager game to the PIP mixer, and send control instructions for controlling a display of one or more PIP windows to the PIP mixer via the PIP control interface. The PIP mixer receives the first video signal and a second video signal from an external source. The PIP mixer is configured to create a composite video image that includes display data of first video signal and the second video signal in PIP windows based on the control instructions. The composite video image is displayed on the display device.

Various techniques are disclosed for implementing wireless communications among devices in a wager-based gaming environment which may include at least one portable electronic smart card device and/or at least one electronic wagering token. Some aspects relate to periodically engaging in wireless communications between a portable electronic smart card device and a plurality of electronic wagering tokens. Some aspects relate to performing tracking of electronic wagering tokens which are detected as being within possession or control of a patron during various events such as, for example: a patron entering an authorized gaming region of the live casino gaming environment, a patron exiting an authorized gaming region of the live casino gaming environment, a patron initiating start of a gaming session at a gaming device or gaming table of the live casino gaming environment, a patron being detected as being within a predefined proximity to the gaming device or gaming table of the live casino gaming environment, an event relating to the closing of the gaming session, the location of the patron being detected as no longer being within the predefined proximity to the gaming device or gaming table, etc. Some aspects relate to determining an identity of a patron whose presence is detected at the live casino gaming environment. Some aspects relate to detecting and identifying electronic wagering tokens which are within possession or control of the patron of the live casino gaming environment during at least one time interval.
