Abstract:
Described is a system for producing an acoustic field from a plurality of ultrasonic transducer arrays, each of which has known relative positions and orientations. The acoustic field comprises a carrier wave and a modulated wave. The carrier wave has a plurality of modulated focal areas. A plurality of control points having a known spatial relationship relative to at least one of the plurality of ultrasonic transducer arrays is used. The plurality of ultrasonic transducer arrays are calibrated by using the relative position of each of the plurality of ultrasonic transducer arrays.
Abstract:
A touch screen (1111) having an active surface area (1112) which extends in three physical dimensions (x-, y- and z-dimensions) is provided. In the figure the active surface area has a U-shaped form. When a user slides his finger over the active surface area the tactile feedback gives him information about the position of the finger. The touch screen is activated when the active surface area senses a certain pressure from the finger. The use of the touch screen is facilitated especially when the user is on the move or when the touch screen is out of sight. Such use is common when operating hand-held terminals.
Abstract:
A keyboard (30), particularly for control of electronics in vehicles, has at least one key (33) mounted in a recess in the keyboard (30) and pivotable about a pivot (51) to press against a shaped portion (67) of a rubber gasket (63) to operate an electrical switch (69). A display (80), preferably a multiple character LCD, for labelling the switch is visible through a transparent member (49) and connected to a p.c.b. by zebra striped members (81, 82). The display (80) ist not obscured by a finger operating the key (33). The key (33) has a transverse bore (54) in which a compression spring is mounted with balls at the end of the spring to co-operate with stepped generally cylindrical members mounted with their axes perpendicular to the pivot pin (51) and forming detent means to give the key (33) a tactile operation. Preferably the key (33) operates three switches (69) by way of three shaped portions (67).
Abstract:
A keypad has a substrate carrying an array of sense elements arranged to change state in response to keypad operation, a flexible cover disposed above the substrate and having an exposed surface defining an array of independent key regions, with combination key regions defined in interstices between adjacent independent key regions, and an array of discrete snap elements extending between the cover and the substrate and spacing the cover from the substrate.
