The secondary circuit is electrically connected to the secondary element and extracts the transmission signal from the AC signals. The feedback circuit feedbacks an intermediate voltage between voltages of the pair of transmission lines such that the intermediate voltage is converged to a reference voltage. This signal transmission circuit prevents the secondary circuit from malfunctioning due to noise.

The current magnitude is sufficient to generate a regulated voltage output to the two current regulating devices that supply the voltage shifting circuits. An overlap detector (500) receiving (540-546) both differential voltage pairs (330, 335, 370, 375) produces a signal (VOUT) indicating an input is at a detection threshold.

A connection control circuit (port) is provided to guarantee a high quality of port-to- port connection service by enabling to maintain the suspended state even when a disparity exists in the pulse widths of the envelope signals of the tone signals between the sender and receiver, exemplified by a receiver tone pulse width being wider than a sender tone pulse width. Connection control is achieved by providing a signal correction circuit (6) between the receiver circuit (3) of a port that receives incoming signals from an opposing port through a transmission line and a connection state managing machine (5) that manages connection between the ports. The signal correction circuit corrects the tone pulse width of an envelope-signal generated from the incoming tone signal by broadening the pulse width so as to conform to a tone signal having the pulse width specified by own connection state managing machine.

A voltage signal is analyzed for the presence of solid generally non-metallic inclusions in the metal. A method includes sampling digital data of the voltage signal to generate data samples; updating a delayed running average of the data samples to establish a baseline for identifying sudden changes in amplitude of the data samples; determining a threshold by adding a prescribed value to the baseline; identifying a possible inclusion when a significant number of data samples exceeds the threshold; storing a maximum count as the data samples using peak detection until a prescribed number of the data samples fall below the threshold; and comparing a parameter of the possible inclusion with a lookup table to categorize the possible inclusion as either (i) an actual inclusion or (ii) noise.

The device (10) may comprise a plurality, n, of comparator circuits (14) for reading the signal. For each comparator circuit (14) from i=1 to i=n, the i th comparator circuit (14) has a corresponding threshold value which the amplitude of a pulse representing i discrete events will exceed, but which the amplitude of a pulse representing i-1 discrete events will not exceed. Each comparator circuit (14) is arranged to output a first value when the input signal exceeds its threshold value and a second value when the input signal is less than its threshold value. The device (10) includes a counter (16) for counting the number of outputs of the first value that have been output by the plurality of comparator circuits (14).
