Accordingly, the channel status can be easily acquired as the turbo stream and the normal stream are transmitted effectively.

The spectrum of a PCM signal is divided into bands. Combinations of a reference band inclusive of a highest frequency band and another band, one of the reference band and other band being normalized, are checked to identify a combination having a highest spectrum distribution correlation. The spectrum having the same distribution as the spectrum distribution of the reference band contained in the identified combination is scaled along an envelope function and added to a higher frequency side than the reference band to generate an output signal. A presence/absence of high frequency components of a PCM signal is detected. Only if there are high frequency components, the spectrum components are added to generate an output signal. It is therefore possible to recover a signal approximate to the original signal from either an original signal with the spectrum components in some bands being suppressed or a signal representative of an original signal containing no spectrum components in the bands or from a signal combining these two signals.

Anschließend wird ein Raster für den codierten Bitstrom festgelegt, wobei das Raster äquidistante Rasterpunkte aufweist, und wobei der Abstand der Rasterpunkte von der/den verwendeten Codetabelle/n abhängt. Um eine fehlerrobuste Huffman-Codierung zu erhalten, werden Prioritätscodewörter, die bestimmte Spektralwerte darstellen, die im Vergleich zu anderen Spektralwerten psychoakustisch bedeutsam sind, im Raster derart angeordnet, daß der Beginn jedes Prioritätscodeworts mit einem Rasterpunkt zusammenfällt.

An analog communication system having an analog-to-digital storage system including a transmitter (350) and at least one remote receiver (10, 358) for receiving an incoming signal carrying an analog component. The system is adapted to transmit analog messages at a high rate to conserve transmission time and to record and playback the message at a slower audible rate. The system circuitry includes a decoder (16, 220) which may be programmed to recognize an address code specific to a particular receiver or group of receiver, or may be activated simply by the incoming signal without an address code to emit the enable signal. The decoder includes rate memory for storing record and playback rates in memory sectors corresponding to the memory sector of RAM in which the message is stored.

An analog-to-digital voice storage cellular telephone for recording voice messages while the user is away from the cellular telephone unit. In a preferred embodiment, the analog-to-digital voice storage cellular telephone comprises call answering circuitry (518) which is activated after a predetermined number of rings. Detection circuitry waits to detect a SAT signal during a preset period of time. Once the SAT signal is detected a prerecorded outgoing message is transmitted to the callers. The voice storage cellular telephone records incoming voice messages which are retrieved and replayed by users at their convenience. If the SAT signal is not detected, call terminating circuitry (518) immediately terminates call. In accordance with one aspect, voice messages may be recorded at the central cellular station in real time, subsequently transmitted to the voice storage cellular telephone at a high speed and reproduced at normal speed to reduce air transmission time and cost.
