Abstract:
System, method and computer program product for determining a polling schedule for a remote control, are described. A multimedia device collects usage data that identifies when the multimedia device is in use. The probability that the multimedia device is in use for a particular time is determined based on the usage data. A polling schedule is generated based on the usage probability such that the periods in the polling schedule vary according to the usage probability to minimize energy consumption. The polling schedule is then transmitted to the remote control where the remote control polls the multimedia device according to the polling schedule.

A display device including a first communication interface configured to communicate with at least one remote controller, a display configured to output an image, a speaker configured to output sound, and a processor configured to detect a control code from a signal received from the at least one remote controller through the first communication interface, analyze a channel change operation corresponding to a changing of a channel according to an intention of a user based on the control code and at least one of the image and the sound, select at least one preferred channel preferred by the user based on a result of the analysis, and create at least one control instruction for performing the channel change operation to the at least one preferred channel.

A preferred channel tuning method and a video receiving apparatus using the same are provided. According to the preferred channel tuning method of the video receiving apparatus, a channel through which a broadcast signal containing information identical to information regarding a preferred channel is received is tuned as a preferred channel, based on the information regarding the preferred channel rather than the number of the preferred channel. The information regarding the preferred channel includes program specific information contained in the broadcast signal received through the preferred channel. Accordingly, even when the number of the preferred channel changes due to a change in the channel numbers, a preset preferred channel can be automatically tuned without resetting the preferred channel.

A TVPC 10 accumulates history information that has information indicating a channel viewed by a user and viewing time of the channel in a way that associates the information and the viewing time, and generates, based on the history information, preset information indicating any one of channels. The preset information is registered in a remote controller 20 for remotely operating a television receiver 30. When an instruction to tune on a power supply of the television receiver 30 is received from an operator, the remote controller 20 transmits an operation signal for designating the channel specified by the preset information 21 to the television receiver 30 together with an operation signal for designating switching of a power supply state.
