    摘要： An apparatus and method for improving the uniformity of a liquid curtain in a coating system comprising a lip of a slide die wherein the lip includes a front surface on which a liquid composition flows by gravity. The apparatus comprises a ledge having a first, second, and third surface portion. The first surface portion is disposed intermediate the second and third surface portions, and is substantially horizontal. The second surface portion is contiguous with the first surface portion and upwardly inclined. The third surface portion is contiguous with the first surface portion and downwardly inclined away from the first and second surface portions. The apparatus further includes a positioning device for positioning the ledge and lip relative to each other (1) in a first orientation wherein the lip is disposed proximate the first surface portion whereby the liquid composition flows from the slide die onto the first surface portion, and (2) in a second orientation wherein the lip and the ledge are spaced from each other whereby the liquid composition forms a vertical liquid curtain in free fall.

    摘要： A curtain coating method of coating a continuously travelling web with at least two kinds of coating solutions superposed upon one another in layers includes the steps of supplying said coating solutions to flow as a free falling curtain and impinging the coating solutions on the web, in which differences in gelatin concentration and viscosity between a coating solution for a lowest layer and a coating solution for an adjacent layer are adjusted to 0-2 weight percent and 0-20 cp respectively. Furthermore, a curtain coating apparatus for coating a web with a coating solution includes a hopper with a slide plane on which the coating solution flows and with a hopper lip from where the coating solution begins to freely fall down as a free falling curtain, and at least a pair of outlets which are each disposed in a position along the edge part of the free falling curtain and situated in a fixed distance down from the hopper lip, in which the auxiliary solutions are introduced from the width directions so as to maintain the curtain in the width direction thereof.

    摘要： In a method and an apparatus for curtain coating of a moved substrate like a paper web substrate is moved below a liquid supply means providing a single or multilayer liquid coating in the form of a free-falling curtain impinging the substrate at a dynamic wetting line and a blade or air shield located upstream of the dynamic wetting line with respect to the moving direction of the substrate. The dynamic wetting line of the coating curtain on the substrate or web is oriented generally perpendicular to the moving direction of the substrate or web, providing substantially the same air pressure over an essential part of the coating curtain on its front and back side with respect to the moving direction of the substrate and providing a first supply air flow upstream to the wetting line. The supply air flows over a substantial length along the free-falling curtain and evacuates air from a location upstream of the supply air flow so that the air near the dynamic wetting line is moved against the moving direction of the substrate web and the boundary air layer entrained to the substrate. A second supply air is provided in proximity to the wetting line.
