    Abstract: The invention relates to a check valve (10), comprising a valve housing (12), which comprises an inlet (16), an outlet (22), and a valve channel (18). The valve channel (18) connects the inlet (16) to the outlet (22) and has a valve seat (58). The check valve further comprises a closure part (48), which cooperates with the valve seat (58), and a tappet (50) bearing the closure part (48). In order to reduce noise, an end of the tappet (50) which is remote from the closure part (48) bears a control piston (52), which together with a cylinder wall defines a control chamber (62), which is connected a control connection (76). The control chamber (62) is connected to the valve channel (18) by means of a connection channel (66, 68).

    Abstract: Back-flow prevention valve assembly for use with a vacuum pump (40) or the like and employes a valve element (50) movable between positions opening or closing a passageway through the assembly. In the event of pump failure a control valve (62), which is operated by fluid from the pressure side of the pump (40), vents ambient air behind the valve element (50) to assist it in moving rapidly to the closed position to prevent back-flow. After resumption of pumping, a controlled withdrawal of ambient air behind the valve element (50) delays opening of the valve until the pump (40) has created a sufficient vacuum to minimize influx of air upstream when the valve (50) opens.
