Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren beim Anwählen einer Gangstufe bei einem Fahrzeug-Automatikgetriebe mit zumindest einer Vorwärtsgangstufe und einer Rückwärtsgangstufe, bei dem bei bestimmten Betriebsbedingungen ein Schaltvorgang von der Vorwärtsgangstufe in die Rückwärtsgangstufe oder umgekehrt ignoriert wird. Die Aufgabe, Fehlbedienungen bei der Betätigung eines Automatikgetriebes zu vermeiden und den Fahrkomfort zu erhöhen, wird dadurch gelöst, daß der Schaltvorgang bis zu einer bestimmten ersten Geschwindigkeit des Fahrzeugs durchgeführt wird, daß in einem Geschwindigkeitsbereich des Fahrzeugs zwischen der ersten und einer zweiten Geschwindigkeit beim Schaltvorgang lediglich eine neutrale Gangstufe eingelegt wird und daß der Schaltvorgang oberhalb der zweiten Geschwindigkeit ignoriert wird.

A shift control system is provided for an automatic transmission in which a secondary shifting unit capable of being shifted to a high speed stage or a low speed stage and a primary shifting unit capable of setting one of plural speed stages including a reverse speed stage are connected in series and the secondary shifting unit can be set to the high speed stage upon setting the reverse speed stage. The shift control system is equipped with a reverse range detector for detecting a shift from a neutral range to a reverse range, a vehicle stop detector for detecting a vehicle in a stopped state, and a high speed stage command device for setting the secondary shifting unit at the high speed stage when subsequent to setting of the primary shifting unit at the reverse speed stage as a result of a shift to the reverse range, the vehicle is determined by a signal from the vehicle stop detector to have substantially stopped.

A shift interlock mechanism for an automatic transmission includes electro-hydraulic elements (40,42) internal to the transmission which are operable to inhibit the supply of fluid pressure for engaging the forward and reverse speed ranges of the transmission. The electro-hydraulic elements are activated in response to various operating parameters of the vehicle, including range selector position, engine throttle position, depression of the service brake pedal, vehicle speed, etc. The mechanism does not interfere with movement of the transmission range selector, and includes a mechanical link (90) for overriding the interlock function when the range selector is moved to a LO forward range, thereby providing an override in the event of a failure of the electro-hydraulic elements.

The control system preselects ratio gears in a nondriving path and then alternately engages the powershift clutches to switch driving connections from one path to the other. The logic system includes an improved reverse sequence valve (132) and improved shift valves (124, 126, 128). The shift valve system includes the feature of trimmer valves (364, 370, 372, 374) to control the engagement rate of the synchronizer clutches and combination trimmer valves (360, 366) to control the engagement rate of the powershift clutches.
